Yay for Friday! This week flew by in a blink thanks to Monday being a holiday and then I decided to take today off from work! I’m looking forward to spending the day with a friend – shopping and a long lunch are on deck! But first, it’s time for another edition of Fit Five Friday, and, since it is the last Friday of the month, I’m linking up with Marcia to share some Runfessions.
A Couple of February Runfessions
While I’m happy to have started to ease back into running, I runfess that this return is feeling especially hard. I just want to go out and run 5 miles and not think about it. Clearly, this is not where I am right now so if you’ve got any extra patience, please send it my way!
I also runfess that there were times this month when boredom got the better of me and I started to slack on my PT exercises. Well, my hip/quad quickly let me know that this was the wrong path to venture down, so needless to say I quickly got back to it!
And finally, would it be February Runfessions if I didn’t complain about the weather? Well, I runfess that my tolerance for (or willingness to tolerate!) cold weather seems to diminish with every passing year. And, we’ve now reached that inevitable point in the season where winter just needs to show itself to the door!
Are you seeing any signs of Spring where you are?

Despite a few random “winter-like” cold days, we are seeing a lot of spring-like signs, and I’m loving every last one of them. I’m definitely hoping for a true early spring, and that winter will vacate the premises for the season.
The forecast is showing hints of spring coming this week and I can’t wait!
I don’t wanna tease you but it’s been very spring-like here most of the month and it’s absolutely crazy. The trees are getting buds, the daffodils are popping up and the birds are busy. I suspect we’ll pay for this but for now I’ll take it. All the best with your return to running. It is not easy.
Amazing that Chicago is experiencing that kind of weather! I hope it holds up for you.
Thanks Marcia – the slow grind back to running is definitely a test of patience!
I could have ‘fessed these same runfessions! I am so tired of my hamstring hip bridge-roll outs, but my hamstring hasn’t had enough.
We definitely have daffodils popping up.
Have fun with your friend today!
Yeah – it’s sometimes hard to accept that these PT exercises may just be a permanant fixture.
I think it is so hard to ease back into running instead of just jumping back in at the mileage we used to be able to do. We are thankfully seeing signs of spring here in Tennessee! But I am still wondering if we will have one more cold snap before spring is actually here. Enjoy your day off!
Enjoy those signs of spring – I hope they last!
OH I hear you on the patience with returning to running. It is not easy at all. It is slow and tedious but worth it. You will get there!
Oh so tedious, but yes worth it! Glad to see you’re back at full strength.
It’s funny, Darlene posted something recently about 3 miles feeling like a marathon when you’re getting back in shape, and it’s so true! You’ll get there, but I agree progress can feel so slow.
We’ve had the coolest and wettest winter that I can remember, in the whole 24 years I’ve lived in Florida. They say it’s because of El Nino and that things should return to normal mid-March. I’m kind of over the rain but I’m enjoying the cooler temps- and for us that means 50s in the early mornings, aka perfect running weather. It will all end soon!
This has been my longest break from running in quite some time and clearly I’ve forgotten how hard it is to get back into it!
Such odd weather everywhere it seems – hope you can hold on to the 50s for a bit — sounds glorious!
I know about boring PT. It can be hard to keep it going with any level of enthusiasm. I do find Liam Neeson to be particularly encouraging, though. Better get to work 🙂
We are having a few days that are warmer between the cold ones. Of course, they would pop up on significant days: like the day of my 15K. Ugh.
Oh no – hope the weather didn’t put a wrench in your 15K plans!
No sign of spring yet! Still cold!!
And yes, recovery sucks but it’s better than not running. I’m still easing back with more walking than running some days.
So true – it is better than not running at all.
LOL at the flip flop slap meme.
I feel you on the physical PT reminders. We’ve got this. Enjoy the double long weekends
Thanks Cari! I hope we’re both back to where we want to be soon!
We’re having springlike weather – gorgeous this AM, BUT it may snow tonight, because CHICAGO! LOL.
I’m bad about keeping up my PT exercises – especially when I feel better.
“Beacuse Chicago” too funny! That pretty much sums it up. I hope you were able to avoid the snow.
