Is anyone else amazed that we’re already in September? For me, August was a month of “juggling all the balls” and in that respect, I’m happy to put it in the rearview mirror.
Weekly Run Down – Weeks 34 & 35
Over the past couple of weeks, I’m happy to say running is getting better! I have kept most of my runs short and at an oh-so-easy pace, and the reward has been no hip pain. I did increase my distance back up to 5 miles yesterday and all was well.
I have been diligent about strength training and daily stretching – both I’m sure are helping to keep the hip happy. I also completed Matty’s Summer Crunch core challenge on Peloton, though in full disclosure I got a little bored and ended up subbing in some other instructors’ core classes this past week.
I’ve also been sticking to low-impact rides, which offer a great endurance challenge without taxing the joints.
September Goals
Hip treatment — This week’s appointment with the orthopedic doctor got bumped due to changes in his surgical schedule. So I have been re-booked for Thursday. I will continue the daily stretching and mobility work. And, I am fairly certain PT is in my future.
Focus on the 10Ks — I runfessed that I was going to drop down from the 15K to the 10K for the Back on My Feet Virtual Running Festival. I’m also running the Ocean Road 10K the first weekend in October. I think focusing on this distance and stretching my “long runs” to 7 miles is the smart choice for now.
Mindful eating — I didn’t just fall off the wagon with my eating over the past month, I jumped! Time to hit the reset button and be more mindful of how I’m fueling my body.
How was your week? Are you setting any goals for September?

Glad to hear that running is feeling better for you! The orthos do like to send us for PT, don’t they? I didn’t fall off the healthy eating bandwagon, but after my injury, the lack of activity took a toll…I’m trying to get rid of that donut around my waist. UGH it sure didn’t take long to put on the pounds

Oh, I’m with you on the donut around the waist! Didn’t take much to add the pounds, but I’m sensing it’s going to take a little work to make them go away.
I also can’t believe that we’re already in September, and that it’s a holiday weekend.
Glad that running is feeling better for you this week. Looking forward to running the virtual BOMF 10K with you!
It’s been nice to finally have some pain-free runs! Which day are you planning to run your 10K?
Oh, I’m so glad to hear the running is going well & the hip is happy 🙂 A month long challenge would be tough (it was daily, I think?)…I’d get bored with that, too. Great job sticking it out!

Thanks Kim 🙂
Glad running is feeling normal- looks like a nice week! Good luck with PT!
Thank you Jessie!
If you do end up with PT, may it be the end of that hip pain!
I think I should’ve kept my long run short this week, but oh well. No races here still, so it’s sort of all good.
For many of us nutrition is a constant battle! Especially with all the stressful times we’ve all had over the last couple of years.
Yes, the stress-eating struggle is real! Hoping I can strike a better balance this month.
Yay! Glad your hip is feeling good. I’m wondering what they would do in PT that you’re not already doing- sounds like you’ve got it under control. At least that would be my attitude, then I would blow off going to PT and it would come back to bite me. So… carry on!
I have some sleep and eating goals for September that I’ve only been following through with halfway- I need to get more serious about those.
I’m curious about what PT would have me do as well. Also, curious to see if the ortho prescribes something other than PT.
Glad your hip is feeling OK. I hope your ortho appointment goes well. I’m a fan of PT — even when it didn’t fix my achilles, it helped!
September took me by surprise, and with Labor Day falling relatively late, the month may fly by!
I always find PT helpful as it always seems to focus on those little muscles and weaknesses I would otherwise ignore.
Seriously where has the year gone? I feel like it was just June the other day. Glad to hear your hip is behaving. Props to you for keeping it strong. Your running plan sounds like a good one!
Thanks Marcia – if I can just keep the running consistent now I will be happy!
I am ready for the cooler temps that I hope Sept will bring. Really happy to see your hip is feeling better lately. After all of my travel this week, I am ready to get back to my regular schedule of exercise and eating too. Have a good one!

Travel is always fun, but it is nice to get back to your routine, right? Have a good week!
Good news about the hip! I’ve been training for my half for every but it’s in 5 weeks now. No PB coming but at least I should be vaguely strong for it.
Bravo Liz! Will your race be live or virtual?
It’s a live one!!
How exciting! Good luck!
Glad your hip has been feeling good! Sounds like a smart plan for your race. This summer has been so busy and I’d love for things to settle down a bit, but I dont see that happening any time soon.
It was a busy summer! I could really use some downtime!
It sounds encouraging that you’re comfortable running up to 7 miles and plan to run some 10K’s next month. I hope you get your hip issue resolved at your rescheduled appointment this week. It’s always frustrating when those types of appointments get rescheduled.

Thanks Deb – If I can get back up to 7 miles I’ll be pretty happy.
I’m so glad you are recovered! That’s wonderful news, and I’m sure your dedication to strength and stretching played a huge part.
No goals for the month. I just can’t wrap my head around setting them for myself right now.
Thanks Jenn – keeping my fingers crossed that my hip continues to cooperate.
Glad to hear that your hip is feeling better. Hope that PT gets rid of it for good.
Fall treats are so tempting. Hard to say no to cider donuts
Goals?
Well I finished a half marathon. My time was meh. I guess it could have been worse but I had fun before and after.
I need to keep up the long runs so I don’t die during my oct 3 half. But there’s also some 5ks that I signed up for.
Oh yes, cider donuts are a weakness of mine for sure! And I do not believe in denying any food – that just backfires.
Which half is next? Smuttynose?
