This was one of those weeks where my sleep cycle was way off – like wide awake at 2 or 3 am and dead tired by late afternoon. I had no trouble falling asleep, but staying asleep was a whole different story. Needless to say, there were very few early morning workouts, which also left me feeling a little off-kilter. But, I did my best to adjust – here’s a look at how the week went down.
Weekly Run Down – Week 37
Monday — Lower body strength, Core, 20 min Ride & Stretch. I didn’t really have a plan for this workout, but this combination of shorter classes worked really well, and I enjoyed the change of pace of the guided scenic ride.
Tuesday — 1-mile walk, Core & Stretch. I did not sleep well at all Monday night so I kept things short and sweet.
Wednesday — 3-mile run & Hip mobility work. There was just nothing good about this run – the humidity had come roaring back and another poor night of sleep had my legs feeling heavy and slow.
Thursday — Full body strength, Core, 25 min Ride (including 5 min warm-up) & Stretch. This all Robin stack was fun!
Friday — Yoga
Saturday — Back on My Feet Virtual 10K. Full recap coming later, but let me just say that Ma Nature did not play nice. While I didn’t really mind the light rain for the first couple of miles, but the humidity was just miserable.
Sunday — Walk, Core & Stretch
I’m finally getting the cortisone shot tomorrow – who knew I could be this excited for a shot in the hip LOL. So I’m expecting a fairly quiet week ahead…and I’ll be prioritizing getting some much-needed sleep!
In case you missed it:
Thanks to Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down link-up!
I hope the shot in the hip is successful ! Our humidity is merging back into the atmosphere as well. At least the temps have been manageable…but I’m not too upset with the continued warm afternoons. Enjoy your day!
Thanks Kim! After the tease of fall temps, I am so ready to embrace the new season.
Poor sleep really does a number on me. I hope you get better sleep soon, Michelle, and that the cortisone shot helps.
Running a race yesterday would definitely have been very difficult. It was not at all pleasant, so good job getting it done!
Thank you, Judy. Conditions yesterday were definitely not ideal, but I wanted to get the virtual done before the shot.
I really hope the cortisone shot helps your hip. it’s been too long to be in pain. Keep us posted. Nice job on the 10K! I did mine today too
Yay – I hope you had a great run today 🙂
I’ve had nights like that where I wake up in the middle of the night and fall back to sleep. Its so frustrating when that happens! I really hope your cortisone shot helps your hip! Great job with your 10k!
Thanks Lisa!
Oh, not sleeping well is the worst. It really throws everything off. Sounds like you did a good job of getting your workouts done in spite of it! I’m looking forward to hearing all about the cortisone shot- hope you get some relief there.
I know a number of runners who have had success with cortisone – keeping my fingers crossed that it will work for me.
I hope your cortisone shot does the trick and your hip pain improves quickly and significantly!
Ugh on not sleeping well. It’s so frustrating waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to go back to sleep while knowing you’ll be exhausted in the morning. I hope this week is better!
Debbie @ Deb Runs recently posted…Weekly RunDown: September 12 – 18 / Hard Work Pays Off
Thanks so much Deb 🙂
Good luck with the shot, I really hope it helps!
Great job on a virtual 10k in tough conditions!
Thank you Jessie. I’m really hoping that is the last of the humid weather – I’m so ready for fall running!
I’ve been struggling with sleep this week too! I was blaming my new mattress but it happened up at the lake too. I think I’m just stressed out. Sigh. I hope the steroid injection does the trick for you!
Ugh sorry, you haven’t been sleeping either. I hope we both get some sleep this week.
I hope the cortisone shot is just what you need to calm down that hip. Sorry to hear sleep has been elusive lately. I used to do that same middle-of-the-night waking thing but when I got better about taking my vitamin D AND taking it earlier in the day (after breakfast vs after dinner) the sleep issue resolved itself.
So interesting about the vitamin D – I’ve not had my levels measured, but it’s something I will raise with my doc.
Awesome job on the virtual 10K! I couldn’t believe how humid is was yesterday.
Good luck tomorrow with the cortisone shot and I hope that it helps with your hip pain.
The humidity was just so rude, especially after the tease of fall weather we’d had. Hopefully, this is the last of it!
Ugh on the sleep issues! My sleep was off last week too.
Love your Robin stack!
I hope the shot goes well and works well.
Sleep issues seem to be a common struggle for a lot of us – another joy of being a certain age ?! LOL
I had the same sleep patterns. Ugh.
I ran 12 on Saturday. Of course yesterday on my rest day the weather was perfect.
So a big congrats on getting the 10k done. Hope next year you get to run it live.
Hope the shot helps.
Thanks Darlene – I am hoping that they return to an in-person race next year. It’s always fun to run through Boston.
I hope the cortisone shot did what you hoped!
I’m a certified insomniac, and there have been plenty of sleepless nights lately. No matter what I do, there are days I just can’t sleep. It’s awful.
Ugh, I’m sorry you’ve got sleep issues too – it really is so draining not to get a good night’s sleep.
It’s amazing how little changes knock us out of kilter so easily. Sorry I hogged the good weather for B oMF!
I swear after hitting 50 I’ve become much more sensitive to changes in the weather and definitely from a lack of sleep…sigh.
I totally get the struggle of chasing sleep—it’s rough when you’re stuck in that cycle! I’ve been there, and it’s amazing how lack of sleep can affect everything, even workouts. Something that’s helped me is using nightease glasses in the evenings to block out blue light, and it’s actually made winding down a bit easier. Hope you find something that works soon, and here’s to more restful nights ahead!
