Fit Five Friday and Labor Day Coffee

Happy Friday and welcome back to the Fit Five Friday linkup!

That sigh you hear is me exhaling into a 3-day long weekend! I’m starting my weekend with a little catch-up over the Ultimate Coffee Date hosted by Coco and Deborah. So grab a mug of your favorite beverage, and let’s chat for a bit!

Five Things Over September Coffee

Over coffee, I would tell you that we had the big college move-in last week! I’m happy to say that things couldn’t have gone smoother and I will be forever grateful to the “move-in crew” – student volunteers who made quick work of unloading our car and moving everything up to my son’s room. We unpacked, hit the local Walmart for a few things, followed by the bookstore, and were saying our goodbyes in a little over 3 hours!

Over coffee, I would tell you that I’m trying to get used to the house being so much quieter…sigh. But I love hearing how well he’s settling into college life. (Yes we’ve had 1 FaceTime and a phone call!).

Over coffee, I would tell you that I received my volunteer assignment for the Boston Marathon. This marks my 6th year and the first time I will not be at the actual race. I’ll be on bib distribution on Friday afternoon of marathon weekend. If you’re going to be in town for Boston, stop by and visit me!

Over coffee, I would tell you I just cannot wait to embrace all things Fall! I am so over the soul-sucking humidity that seems to have been ever-present this summer. This weekend’s forecast shows mild temps and I am hoping that this will be the start of my favorite season.

Over coffee, I would tell you that I have not been sleeping very well. I’ve been trying to be consistent in shutting down electronics and going to bed at a reasonable hour, and while I have no problem falling asleep, I wake up multiple times during the night.

What would you tell me over coffee? Are you looking forward to Fall?

  1. Glad to hear the college move-in went so well! The quietness in the house definitely takes some getting used to.

I feel you on the sleep issues. I’m still using CBD tincture when I have trouble. Works really well.

  2. I really struggle with getting to bed at a decent time. Granted, I seem to function alright with 5-6 hours (or less LOL) of sleep, but I know my body needs more than what I’m giving it. I can’t remember how far away your son is? Is he any closer than when he went to his other school? Technology is a blessing for staying in contact…it’s already so much more advanced now than when we sent our first off to college (nine years ago…YIKES!).

  3. I too struggle lately with staying asleep. Ugh.

That’s exciting about Boston. I’d love to volunteer for a big race.

Glad that the college move in went well.

We’ve had a cool down. Even chilly last night

  4. I’m glad the move-in went well, and that his freshman year is off to a good start!

My sleep has been horrible this week. Nothing in particular is keeping me up, but just everyting, I guess.

We have a break in the weather – it’s amazing!

    • Sounds like several of us are dealing with sleep issues 🙁 I’m hoping a quiet long weekend will give me a chance to catch up on some much needed ZZZs.

  5. Glad move in went well! I always stay a couple of days after move in because it’s such a long drive, but I’m jealous of those who manage it all in one day.

I’m sad I can’t volunteer for Boston this year – when it moved to the fall, I had to decline as I have too much else going on. Have fun!
MCM Mama recently posted…More coffee, please! My Profile

    • We drove up the day before the move which made all the difference. I would have never made it going up and back (13 hours round trip) in one day!

I didn’t realize you volunteer for Boston. One of the years we’re really going to have to meet up!

  6. Yay! Glad the drop off went well and quick too! It’s so much easier when they’re so happy to be at school. Bib pickup is a very special place at Boston. I well remember taking pics and video of that process. I too have turned the corner and am looking forward to fall. We’ve gotten a taste of cooler overnight temps and it is amazing!

    • I’m looking forward to helping with bib pickup, and I love that it will free me up to spectate on Monday!

The cooler temps have been wonderful – let’s hope Mother N. doesn’t pull a switcheroo 😉

  7. Glad your college move in went well! It is not easy as a mama to let them go. I am sure volunteering at Boston is so much fun! So glad they are having it again in person. Thanks for stopping in for coffee

    • Definitely not easy letting him go, but it’s great to see him so excited about this next chapter! I’m so happy to see that the marathon is taking place – while I’m sure it will feel a little different, the energy around the event is always amazing!

  8. So fun that you’re volunteering at Boston!

I’m looking forward to fall. Running at night in Portland was delightful. 50 degrees for the win! I’m looking forward to Expo East, visiting NYC, Chicago and NYC marathons (plus sweater weather!)

  9. I am literally that Fall meme, lol. As soon as September 1st hits, I start looking at my sweater collection, lol.

So cool that you’re going to do bib distribution for the Boston Marathon this year! I always love volunteering at big races because the runners are excited.

    • Oh yes, I’m eyeing my sweaters too and am ready to break out the boots and jeans LOL.

The energy around the big races is really infectious – maybe it will motivate me to think about running another 😉

  10. Ah! A fellow fall-lover! Actually I’m starting to think we may be twins separated at birth, because I’ve also been having trouble sleeping lately, and moved my son into college. Yes, those student volunteers are amazing! We had a big group of them actually break into applause as we drove up, before they enthusiastically unloaded our entire car. I don’t remember that from my college days! Must be a new thing.
    Enjoy your long weekend!

    • Ha! We really do seem to be living on parallel lives lately 🙂 We definitely didn’t have any of that kind of move-in help back in the day – I am grateful to whoever came up with the idea!

  11. Yay for a smooth move in!

I’m sorry you’re not sleeping better. I started taking melatonin a few years ago — I’d tried it without a lot of success on some vacations, but now it really does seem to help me. A good night’s sleep is so important!

The weather this week (aside from Ida) has been lovely. Great running weather — enjoy!

    • Unfortunately, melatonin and my BP meds are not a good combo. It’s great that you’ve found something that works for you – a good night’s sleep is everything!

  12. I’m glad the move went smoothly and that he’s settling in well at college! :]

That fall cat meme is adorable, haha. I like summer, but I also love fall, so I guess I’m okay with this change. 😛

  13. I CANNOT WAIT for fall! I’m so over the summer. It’s my least favorite season. Give me 50-65 degree weather every day, all day.

How cool to volunteer for the Boston Marathon! I hope to run that one day!

  14. Sleep might as well be non existent in my world. It sucks.

I’m so glad your son is doing well. The quiet must be hard. Hugs to you.

Yay for your Boston assignment. That’s going to be great!
