June has arrived and with it, soaring summer temps. We’re in the middle of the first legit heatwave of the year and acclimation is the name of the game! Here’s how the workout week went down.
Weekly Run Down — Week 22
Monday — 2.5-mile run & stretching. The last day of my staycation was a lazy one, but this shakeout run and a good stretch helped to keep my ITB happy.
Tuesday — 20 min Ride, 30 min Full Body strength, 10 min Core, & stretching. After 10 days off, re-entry into the workday was a little rough, but this combo was the perfect antidote.
Wednesday — A 5K for Global Running Day! It was nice to celebrate virtually with some run buddies (Thanks to Kim for this great collage!)
Thursday — Stretching, otherwise a rest day.
Friday — 20 min ride, 15 Upper Body strength, 10 min Core for Runners, and upper body stretch. I loved this Peloton stack, especially the Core for Runners workout – the standing core and balance work was a nice change of pace.
Saturday — 4.5-mile run. It was so fun to meet up with my brother for a run – we haven’t run together since last Spring! We’re hoping to get a couple more runs in together before our 10K race next month. The heat definitely made this a humbling run – time to get acclimated!
Sunday — 3-mile run, 10 min Core, and a stretch. Despite being up and out early, it was pushing 80 degrees by the time I finished my run. After struggling with a little dehydration during Saturday’s run, I prepped better this morning and this run felt much better.
Adjusting to summer running & planning for fall races! #BOMFBR #BibChat #BibRavePro #WeeklyRunDown Share on XA Couple of Fall Races
I’m excited to add a couple of fall races to my calendar!
Back on My Feet is an amazing organization that combats homelessness through the power of running, community support, and essential employment and housing resources. They currently operate in 14 major cities across the country, including Boston. As a BibRave Pro, I am taking part in the virtual Back on My Feet Running Festival in September. The Festival features a range of distances – I’ll be running the 15K. If you’d like to join me, use the discount code “BibRave5!” to save $5 off registration.
Run to Remember is one of my favorite half marathons (in fact, it was my first!). Ever since the race organizers announced earlier this year that they were hoping to hold an in-person race this Fall in addition to the virtual race held during Memorial Day Weekend, (the traditional race weekend) I’ve been keeping my fingers crossed. This morning the email came through announcing an in-person race in November! Well, it took me about half a second to break out my credit card to register!
How was your week? Has it heated up where you are? Any races on the calendar?
In case you missed it:
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down.
You already know I want to boycott the current heatwave lol.
Love that you’re also doing the BOMF Running Festival 🙂 I really enjoyed the Run to Remember half marathon – wish I could do it again..maybe next year.
Yeah I’m right there with you on that boycott 😉
I’m glad you’re doing BOMF too – maybe we can run our races “together”. And you know I’d love to have you come back to Boston for another visit – we need a meet up in 2022!
That’s fun that you got to run with your brother again. I still don’t have any real races until at least August. We are going to be in Nantucket later this month and I hope it is way cooler there!
Your Nantucket trip should be fun – great time to be out there!
That running path from Saturday really is pretty! Glad your IT band is feeling good.
I finally signed up for a race, on July 4th and then promptly hurt my hip (eye roll.) I certainly hope to be running again by then, but not sure if I trust myself to take it easy- I’ll probably skip it. SIGH!

I’m sorry your hip is still painful. Definitely better to skip the race and give yourself time to heal.
The Back of my Feet festival sounds fun! I like the 15k distance, kind of a rondom one but that makes it unique!
The heatwave is even in Minneapolis! We set some records this weekend. Did not make running very enjoyable to be honest!
I haven’t run a 15K before but love the 10-mile distance.
The heat seems to be everywhere! I hope we all get a break in the temps soon!
The heat is going to take some getting used to, that is for sure!
I bet you were so excited about that race going live! It’s actually been kind of fun, waiting for these races to open up–a trail race I wanted to do last year but was canceled is going live in October! Of course, I signed up immediately! So excited!
It’s nice to start to see some races going live – one more step towards normalcy.
Love to see races on runners’ schedules, How fun.
Tough to run this weekend. Whoa on the heat!!!
Yes! I especially wanted a November race (no potential conflicts with family schedules) so I’m excited to have this one.
Still no races on my calendar. One I’m eyeing (almost Winter!), but so far there’s no word on whether or not it’s actually happening.
Right now I’m happy just to run.
I can’t really imagine running with one of my siblings!
My brother and I usually get at least one race together a year – it was so nice to run with him again 🙂
Yay for another live race on the calendar! You’re lucky to have your brother to run with…my sister has been back in town for a few years now, and has no interest in running (or much fitness-related stuff). I’m glad the hubby is a willing participant on occasion, though. The BOMF sounds like an awesome organization (and event). If I didn’t have my marathon happening then, I would have joined the party.
My brother started running a few years ago and I love it when he joins me for a race. Schedules don’t allow us to just run together very often so when we can it’s always a special treat!

Oooh, we have Halfs on the same day. Can’t wait to train “with” you. Looking into Back on My Feet, thanks for that heads up

Yay – always happy to have a virtual training partner 🙂
It must feel so great to have some races on the calendar! I need to start looking into some options for the fall. The heat was definitely a challenge this weekend. Its gonna take some time to acclimate!
I do love the fall race season so I’m pretty happy to have a couple of races to look forward to!
How great to run with your brother — and to have a 10k on the horizon. The heat and humidity beat me this weekend. I just couldn’t take it!
Oh the heat and humidity definitely humbled me! Running with my brother definitely helped to keep me going.
What a great organization!
It’s ridiculous here. When my friend and I go out to run, we just complain in between gasping for air.
I have a race July 10.
Well heat and humidity in Florida is just a whole other level! I don’t know how you all do it!
That is great about the Run to Remember race! I ran it a few years ago and also enjoyed it. No one else in my family runs so that is great you run with your brother.

I remember you telling me that you had run RtR. You should come back to Boston for a visit 🙂
Glad you could add 2 races to your calendar.
Here the heat has come so, at the moment, I have only one race in my calendar: a 10 km in august but, despite the heat, I want to participate because the route is very very scenic (the name is Sovana-Sorano in Tuscany region).
