Runfessions – June edition

It’s time for another edition of Fit Five Friday hosted by DarleneRenéeJennZenaida, and yours truly! And, since it’s the last Friday of the month, I’m linking up with Marcia for Runfessions. I’ve got a few things to share so let’s get to it!

Runfessions – June Edition

I runfess that I panicked a bit when my hip gave me trouble on my run a week ago. I’ve been working hard to keep up with my strength training and stretching – an injury after this effort would be so frustrating! I continue to stretch and roll like it’s my job and keep my fingers crossed.

I runfess that I am running out of patience for my Garmin. I mentioned back in April that my Forerunner 235 was occasionally finicky. Well, it’s getting worse not better as it becomes more and more temperamental. Clearly, its days are numbered, so I need to hurry up and settle on a replacement.

In an effort to give my eating a boost in the right direction, I runfess that I have returned to counting my macros. I have a love-hate relationship with this process. On the one hand, tracking has proven to help me to be more mindful of what I’m eating – on the other hand, the tracking is oh so tedious. But, for now, my clothes are fitting better so there’s that.

Any runfessions to share?

  1. I hope your hip gets well soon.
I have also problems with my GPS, it gets crazy when I run through the city; on the contrary it is perfect when my workouts are far from the buildings.

  2. That’s frustrating that your Garmin is giving you trouble. I have the 235 as well which isn’t that old but it seems like there are so many newer ones available. I hope your hip settles down, especially after all the work you’ve been doing to prevent injury!

    • I really am kinda surprised to be having so many problems with my watch when it is just 4 1/2 years old. I was on Garmin’s website the other day and was surprised to see all of the options they have!

  3. I runfess that I have never done the macro counting thing. I can have OCD for some things; not sure I could bring it to that process LOL My Garmin is still holding strong, but I assume there will come a day when it needs replaced as well…I’ll be curious to hear/see what you decide. Glad your hip is doing alright!

  4. Sorry your Garmin is acting up. That’s so frustrating, especially if it is not “old enough” to be glitchy. I’m so with you on the macros. So tedious! Ugh!

    • The Garmin issues have been a drag especially since right now the only thing I’d like to keep track of is my mileage. I thought I’d get more than 4+ years out of this one!

I hope your hip behaves. I get it. Every twinge with my back or ankle or calf has me cringe. But so far so good.

I hardly use my Garmin. It would bug if it didn’t work during a race. That would make me buy another. I have the 230 I think.

  6. Sorry to hear about your watch!! I had the 235 for a long time until it died. After much deliberation, I stepped down to the 35. It gives me everything I need and it was definitely a good price!

Fingers crossed that the hip quiets down for you! And I runfess that I don’t even know what a macro is, lol

    • Ignorance is bliss on the macro thing I say! LOL

I’ll have to remember to look at the 35 – it’s crazy how many different watches Garmin offers these days!

  7. I cringed when I read about your hip flare. I hope it was a fluke. I don’t know if I can go back to counting anything about what I eat — I’m scared from too many years of dieting. I’m in such a rut with meal planning and grocery shopping, though, I need to do something.

    • I’m in a rut too, and was not loving the way my clothes were fitting (I try to avoid the scale) so I figured I needed to try something.

I continue to hold my breath and hope the hip stays quiet.

  8. Counting macros is what changed my whole nutrition plan and has made a huge difference for me. If you ever want to chat about it I am your girl! I always freak out just a touch when my hip feels funny bc I think it is an impending disaster. Have a great weekend!

  9. Alright, I have my fingers crossed for your hip. You have to read Beth Risdon’s “Five Stages of Injury Grief” post- if you go to her blog (Shut Up and Run) it’s in the favorite post section. That meme is totally the “denial” phase. Anyway it sounds like you’re taking care of it. Good luck!!!

  10. I’ve never tried counting macros but I know so many people that have had success with it. I have done Weight Watchers on and off for a few years and it always works for me but I do get sick of counting points.

I just need food to not have calories and then I would be set for life, lol

  11. Fingers crossed on your hip. Those scares are terrifying!!

I’ve never counted macros but I have done food logs – for some reason if I have to write it down, I make better choices. Even if I keep the logs to myself. Crazy but true for me.

  12. I’m thinking of returning to counting macros. I hate it for the same reason you do but it does a good job of keeping me in check. Sorry to hear about the 235 being temperamental. I’m really enjoying the 245 so you may want to check that out!

    • I’m glad to see I’m not alone in how I feel about the whole macro thing 🙂 And, good to know about the 245 – I will have to take a look at that one.

  13. I hope the hip continues to cooperate! You’ve been very diligent, Michelle.

My weight goes down a few pounds and up a few pounds. Seriously for the most part I do eat pretty healthy. I think one of my problems is lack of desire (or time) to cook.

Although we still don’t eat out (or order in) very often . . .

    • Thanks Judy – I’m trying to stay on top of things with the hip!

I like to think I eat fairly healthy too, but I definitely wouldn’t mind dropping a few pounds.

  14. Macros is the way to go for me too. It has helped me lose weight and keep it off. But as you mentioned, it can be so tedious.

  15. I never count my macros. Way too complicated for me.

It’s a bummer about your Garmin. I just got a Venu a few months ago and I like it a lot.

  16. I’ve heard of counting macros but have never done it. I don’t think I can do it. I just like to eat! 🙂 Bummer about the watch. I also have the 235 and love it, but I got mine in November so it is still pretty new! I have a 225 that you can have if you want it. Very similar to the 235.

    • I just prefer to eat too LOL!

Thanks for the watch offer. Curious…what made you get the 235 since you had the 225? I’ve been looking at the Venu and Venu SQ are really like both.

  17. Ooooh, I know how nerve-wracking twinges can be. I hope your hip is alright.

I want a new Garmin, but I don’t need a new Garmin. That annoys me LOL.
