Weekly Run Down – Week 1

First full week into 2021 and what a week it turned out to be! As I expected, returning to work after some time off was chaotic at best. But any drama there was quickly overshadowed by all that took place in DC. Needless to say, I have been keeping my word of the year Mindset front and center!

On the fitness front, the week was thankfully far less dramatic, and as always provided an opportunity to channel any stress! I made a conscious decision to not run to give my cranky right hip a break. Here’s how my workouts played out…

Monday — Peloton 30-min ride and 10 min yoga for hips. I loved this Hamilton ride and scored a new PR!
Tuesday — Peloton 30-min ride and 10-min yoga. I always know that Alex’s classes are going to be challenging, but I swear he was on fire from the opening minute. I just what I could to hold on.

Wednesday — 3-mile walk and 10-min yoga
Thursday — Peloton 30-min ride and 10-min yoga. I have to say that I really was not a fan of this Beyonce ride. The instructor Ally was just a little too into the theatrics which really detracted from the ride in my opinion. Ah well, can’t expect to enjoy all of the classes.
Friday — 5-mile walk, 20-min strength class, and yes yoga. I did the walk with a friend and the combination of being outdoors and catching up was good for my soul. I really liked the yoga for hips class I did earlier in the week so I repeated it.
Saturday — 3-mile walk and 10-min yoga
Sunday — Peloton 20-min ride and 20-min yoga. This combination of classes was my absolute favorite of the week! I have really been enjoying the “Year of Yes” rides and the positive messaging. And Denis’s yoga classes are always good. I bookmarked both of these classes and will be taking them again.

I think the combination of a run break and daily yoga was the right call as I have been feeling good and I’m itching to get out for a run this week! And, while I was initially wondering how I was going to make this month’s goal of daily yoga a reality, I think I found a nice balance aiming for 10 minutes a day with a longer session on Sunday.

  1. I think Alex is the toughest cycle instructor he has great energy. Love him! Excited for the new linkup see you there. Have a great week ahead

  2. Running-wise, the week was fine. Otherwise, pretty insane.

When I run or bike, I do my own thing even with the Peleton app. I do my runs only outside and I am still easing into bike mode.

Excited to be part of the new link-up.

  3. No doubt, it was a very trying week. Great timing for all that yoga (coincidence?). Glad to hear the hip is feeling better & I’m so excited for the new Friday link-up!!!!

  4. It was a stressful week for sure! Way to lean into your workouts. Those Peloton rides look fun. I’ve yet to get the app. Maybe this week!

  5. Sometimes we have to take time off the road. Sounds like you found the perfect backup plan! I had planned on cutting back on my miles, but since 2021 has turned into 2020 v2.0, I’ll just keep doing my thing…

  6. I’m excited for the new link-up! Oh, I thought Ally’s Beyonce ride was ridiculously over the top. I haven’t taken another class from her assuming that’s what she’s like. I think I’ve taken one ride with Alex (I love his old core classes). He doesn’t mess around!

Glad you’re feeling better after taking a few days off from running.

    • Thanks Coco!

And, I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt that way about Ally’s ride. That was my first class with her and I can’t say I’m interested in taking another either. I didn’t realize Alex had core classes – those must be so intense!

  7. So excited for our link-up! It’s going to be great!

Yes! Enough drama! I can barely sleep anymore – I’m so nervous about what I’m going to wake up to in the morning.

    Great job with your workouts!

  8. It sounds like some time off from running was the right call for you! Glad your hip is feeling better and that you’ve been able to incorporate yoga into your routine regularly.

  9. I hope cycling and yoga help with your cranky hip. I’m sure giving it a break from running was a good idea. Here’s hoping it won’t bother you when you ease back into your runs.

    Have a great week, Michelle!

  10. Sometimes all you need is a break to feel ready to go again! Glad to hear you found your groove with Yoga — like all things fitness, a little bit consistently is better than a lot just one day.

We may be off to a rough start, but let’s hope things calm down soon. Like, really, really soon!

  11. Your photo for Tuesday made me LOL because that’s how I feel after all of the bootcamp classes and some of the rides. Alex is always on fire! i need to take some of his club bangers rides again soon.

I’m looking forward to the new Friday link up and will try to join it next week!

    • My son caught me literally with my head down on the handlebars and took that photo – in between laughing at me LOL! I want to work up the nerve to try the club banger rides.

Hope to “see” you Friday 🙂

  12. sometimes you just need a break from running to feel good and enjoy running again! I’ve had such a huge break from it that I now REALLY enjoy when I can. I have one of those “that lady must be crazy” smiles on my face when I’m doing my intervals! ha!

it was a really stressful week. Also so hard to watch all of this from afar. we must continue to hope though. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

Excited to be co-hosting the Friday link up with you all!

  13. All the Peloton and yoga are probably perfect for your hip right now. You gave it a break from running but kept moving- movement=bloodflow=healing! Hope you can run on it soon. There’s nothing like running outside for stress relief and we all need that right now!

  14. A 10 min yoga class sounds like the perfect length for me. I mean, if it’s can’t just 5 mins, 10 would be OK. 😉 Glad your hip is feeling better!

  15. I never took any of Alex’s classes. Ha, now I don’t want to. 🙂 Happy to see you are doing yoga on a daily basis. Last week was stressful. Thank goodness we have ways to stay active to help relieve some of that stress.
