Happy New Year!
I can’t think of a nicer way to kick off 2021 than with a little catch-up over coffee. I’m linking up with Deborah and Coco for the first Ultimate Coffee Date of the New Year, so grab a mug of your favorite beverage and join us!
Over coffee, I would tell you how much I’ve been enjoying my week off. While we couldn’t do many of the traditional outings and events we usually do, we’ve had a good time just being together. There have been movies, puzzles, board games, and most importantly, lots of laughter. We needed this time together before classes and work resume.
Over coffee, I would tell you how excited I am for my oldest – he’s already received two college acceptances! He’s still got a few more applications to submit, but having those yeses under his belt sure allows him (and me!) to breathe a little easier.
Over coffee, I would tell you that I have the house all to myself today. J and the boys went skiing this morning so for the first time in a long time I have a day to myself! I’m going to take advantage of the quiet time to write out my goals for the year and to dive into my new book.
Your turn…What would you tell me over coffee?
Wow…enjoy that quiet day to yourself! It’s really an odd day for us…usually there’s plenty of football to watch, but not this year. I think the son is coming home this afternoon, so maybe we’ll start another “Iowaopoly” match (he wants revenge on his dad kicking our butts last time LOL).
I love that you have an “Iowaopoly” – I wonder if they have a Boston or MA version?
It is a tough year for college bound kids. Congrats to your son. it is always nice to have options! Enjoy that quiet house today 🙂

Yes not being able to do traditional school visits has been tough. You can only get so much of a feel for a school through virtual tours.
Enjoy your day of time just for YOU! Oh that college admissions time is SO exciting! Congrats to your son! Those acceptances take all the pressure off! Awesome!
Thanks Marcia! Definitely breathing a lot easier here 🙂
Congrats to your son! Hopefully, he picks somewhere close to home…lol. Mine will resume his studies next fall. No regrets taking that gap year, although I think he is missing school.
Enjoy your day!
I think it’s great your son was able to take a gap year.
And yes I am secretly rooting for the college closer to home 🙂
Congratulations to your oldest! That is exciting that he had some college acceptances in hand. I have been wanting to read that Shonda Rimes book. I hope you like it. A day alone used to be one of the benefits of all 3 of my boys plus my hubby playing golf. It was heaven! Enjoy!

Thanks Laurie – I’m so happy for him!
Huge congrats to your son! It must alleviate some of the stress of a very stressful year. I should re-read Shonda’s book and take it along with some of those Peloton classes.
Happy New Year!
I had been wanting to read Shonda’s book for a while – the Peloton classes reminded me it was still on my “must read” list.
Yay! Congrats to your son! :] I hope you enjoyed your day and got to get started on your book! I’m hoping to read more this year.
Thanks Farrah! I am really hoping to do more reading this year too and have a stack of books I want to tackle.
Having a day to yourself can be the best! I don’t really get that in current circumstances either — that’s why I have to get out & go places by myself sometimes!
Congrats to your son. Y’all can breathe a little sigh of relief now. Let’s hope college looks much different next year!
Thanks Judy – definitely breathing a little easier. I’m really hoping by the time he starts in the fall things are getting closer to normal.
