Happy Sunday!
Did you have an enjoyable 4th? Mine was very low-key. After completing the June Summer Streaker Challenge (1-mile run or 20-minute workout each day), I took my first complete rest day. I did nada, nothing….it was a gloriously lazy day hanging with the family, capped off with a big lobster dinner on the deck. And, dare I say that I didn’t really miss seeing fireworks this year.
Here’s how this my week of workouts went down…
Monday — 1.25 mile run plus a couple of strength workouts via Peloton.
Tuesday — 1- mile run plus Peloton flow yoga for hips
Wednesday — 3-mile run
Thursday — 1.25 miles plus PT exercises and core work
Friday — 3-mile run
Saturday — Rest!
Sunday — 5-mile run
In my efforts to find my next summer challenge, I embarked on a mini run streak this week (actually from last Saturday through Friday). While I’ve done workout streaks or run/walk challenges, I have never attempted a run streak – so I tried one on to see how it would feel. The result? It was fine, but not inspiring enough in and of itself to continue. I crave variety in my workouts and the thought of “I have to run today” to keep a streak going just didn’t do it for me. One good take away from this little experiment was my dedication to daily rolling. Knowing that I was going to run every day really motivated me to hit the foam roller – that’s a habit I want to keep up!
How was your week? Have you ever tried a run streak?
I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
I keep hearing great things about Chelsea’s yoga class I plan to try them this week. Nice job completing your challenge. We had a pretty low key weekend as well. Not too much going on around here. Have a great week and stay cool
Thanks Deborah – you too!
I’m glad you found something to keep you motivated! With the heat we are having, I’m having some regrets about signing up for my ultra, lol! Yesterday’s long run was…long. Still not feeling good today.
This humidity is really making running to tough!
I have not done a run streak yet, but I am contemplating one for July — just turning my Scooby walks into short runs. While I”m only 5 days in, it has motivated me to be better about stretching too.
Lobster on the deck sounds terrific. We had take-out pizza. 😉
It’s funny that it took running every day to get me to commit to foam rolling!
I have done several run streaks, but most have been during the winter (I did a summer streak once, Memorial Day thru July 4th). They can get mundane, though. The daily foam rolling, though, is a total win! We didn’t have any “official” fireworks here, either…but a few random neighbors “shared” a few with the ‘hood.
LOL how nice that they “shared” 😉
oh, a lobster dinner for the 4th- sounds so great! Good for you for enjoying that rest day, you deserve it!
That rest day was truly needed!
I don’t streak, I’m way too injury prone, but always admire others. Also a total rest day today and it was delicious. No have to, just a book by the river.
Yes, the potential for injury has always been my reason to avoid them too.
Great job finishing up your June streak! I dont think I would want the pressure of having to run every day. I like being able to take at least 1 day off a week. But more running is definitely good motivation to foam roll regularly!

It’s that potential stress of getting a run in every day that doesn’t appeal to me.
I love daily rolling but always so hard to get it done! I’ve never done a streak, and like you, I enjoy variety.
Good job trying it though! Now you know. 🙂
Exactly – I figured no harm in giving it a try 🙂
It was fun to give it a try!
Never have I ever done a run streak. I’m a low mileage runner who does lots of cross training. It’s what works for me. And yes, way too hot here to run that much.
I’ve been enjoying my cross-training so much these days…and having the variety of workouts is much more appealing.
We had a fairly quiet 4th of July as well.
I’m not a run streaker. It just doesn’t serve me well. I love watching others in action.
I do marvel at those who can streak, but I just don’t see it being my thing.
My closest thing to a streak was the Strava Lululemon challenge a few years ago. I had to run 50 outdoor miles in 2 weeks and I did it by running a few miles twice a day. I think the longest I went was 7 days. It was fun to do something different, but exactly like you say, just not inspiring enough to continue.

Yep – I could see doing another one week streak at some point just to change things up, but not as a long-term thing.
I love that you are doing a mini run streak! I’m not a run streaker because my knees don’t like it, but I love the idea of a run streak for accountability and consistency.
We had a very low-key 4th of July as well, which was actually quite fun!
The mini streak was definitely a fun thing to try since I had never streaked before. I might do it again at some point just to keep things interesting.
I’ve never tried a run streak, as I’m wary of damaging myself. I have been doing 2 days on, 1 day off during much of lockdown and that’s worked OK. I did a half-marathon on 4 July with my American friend, as you do! No fireworks that I remember, though …
I also really like having a rest day every now and then – gives the body a true chance to recoup.
A lobster dinner sounds yummy! We had burgers that day with my mom and sister. I ordered them from Portillo’s and picked them up.
I have tried doing a run streak but end up missing a day or two and then not finishing anyway. I have realized that they’re not for me and I am OK with that.
And I think that’s the key…knowing what works for you, right?
