Wishing all my fellow running moms a big Happy Mother’s Day!
Another week of the “Corona life” is a wrap. A couple more races on my schedule for this year were postponed or canceled, leaving me with just a few fall holdouts. At this point, I’m taking it all in stride and keeping my expectations very low. On the positive side, I’ve got more time to strengthen my hip and rebuild my mileage base with zero pressure of a goal race on the horizon.#glasshalffull
Here’s a quick rundown on this week’s workouts…
Monday — Bosu & Bands workout and Family Plank Challenge Day 4
Tuesday — 3 miles, plank day 5
Wednesday — 1-hour physical therapy session, plank day 6
Thursday — PT exercises, plank day 7 and 20 minutes of yoga via Peloton
Friday — 5 miles with the first 2.23 dedicated to Ahmaud Arbery. My heart was so heavy during this run. Thankfully I got to walk and FaceTime with Kim in the afternoon which definitely put a smile on my face. Day 8 – plank challenge.
Saturday — Strength training, including two workouts from Marcia’s new YouTube channel (Lower Body Burn followed by Iron Core Tabata). It was great to have Marcia as a virtual workout buddy!
Sunday — Virtual 5K for the Un-canceled Project. When I received an email from Run the Edge at the beginning of the week announcing that they were extending the Project for a second round through the week of June 21st, I knew this was something I wanted to do for a little extra running incentive.
I also signed up for the Zooma Run Club, which seems like a great group of women – I’m sure this will also be a source of fun motivation.
How was your week? Are things starting to open up where you are?
I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
You and the family are awesome with the plank challenge!
I love the Uncanceled Project for their thoughtful themes. Nice that you are continuing!
I was sorry to have missed out on the first round so I was happy to see them extend the Project!
Loved seeing the pic of you and your son doing a plank challenge! My money is on you! Happy mother’s day and have a great week ahead
Thanks – he’s pretty competitive so this should get interesting 🙂
Glad you’re on board with the Un-Canceled Project! I also signed up for Zooma but forgot to checkout the FB page (my bad). The pic of you and your son planking is awesome…almost like a planking duel 😉
Yay for joining Zooma! It’s been great watching you crush the Un-canceled Project – definitely motivated me to get on board!
Having more time to strengthen your hip is a good thing! We need to focus on the positives right now, right? Great week of workouts!
Yes – definitely trying to focus on the things I can control.
I hope you had a great Mother’s Day! Love the family plank challenge. Looks like you had a great week.
The family challenge is definitely helping to keep things interesting 😉
Love that pic of you and your son! Mother’s Day was low-key here, as expected. There were gluten-free cupcakes though. We are not even close to opening up, sadly. I’m wondering about fall at this point. Thanks again for working out “with” me! Haha!
I can’t wait to try another one of your workouts!
I signed up for the ZOOMA Run club too!
Planking with your son – awesomeness!
NYS may be the last state to open. I may have to vist your state (if they let me in).
MA is moving pretty slow on the opening as well. I saw a map on the news yesterday and I swear NY and MA were the only states still listed as fully closed 🙁
I signed up for the Zooma Run Club too. I might check out the UnCancelled Project as well. I didn’t do it the first time around so now that they extended it, I might do it. I have noticed that I need a little push to get my runs in these days.
Thanks so much for the chat on Friday!
I definitely feel the need for a little extra motivation for my runs!
Let’s plan another call soon 🙂
I love that photo of you and your son doing the plank challenge! That’s great that you’re doing that together :). Things aren’t really opening up here, and I think that’s the right decision, they’ve just opened up some outdoor areas, state parks, etc. for now. Our governor has said he’ll open up more when hospitalization numbers go down consistently,

I’m really OK with the conservative approach to opening things up – better to be safe!
We are not opening up yet. Maybe beginning to in a few days, but who really knows.
I’d definitely settle for just some seasonal weather!
Seasonal weather would be nice before it turns hot & humid!
Happy Mother’s day (belated)! Hooray for sons as workout buddies! I love when son joins me. We always have a good time. How long are you planking now?
Plank time is up to 2:15. I love that you and your son workout together!
Part of me says uh uh no way will there be any fall races but my hometown marathon insists that the race is going to take place in September, so maybe? In any case, this is just such a good time to improve as a runner. I’m going to keep my mileage up while the weather is still cool and then really hit the speed this summer and do a bunch of virtual 5&10ks.
Sounds like you have a good plan! I think the big deciding factor for races around here will be whether the Boston Marathon goes off.
Zero expectations over here. Prepare for the worst, and be surprised by everything else.
Most of Florida is opening. I don’t know how I feel, probably because I’m not really going out, nor do I plan to. Our city just canceled their giant fireworks display for the 4th of July and people are losing their minds. I just don’t think I would want to be there. I also have no interest in getting my hair or nails done (salons opened today). I’m good with my gray and home manicures.
Yep I’ve learned to embrace my gray too…and my home mani skills are getting much better! 😉
Great work! Love that the planks are still going strong. I hope you had a great Mother’s Day!
Thanks so much Janelle!
Love your family plank challenge! We are allowed to meet a friend in the park if we keep at 2m distance – very exciting!
Nice that you’ll be able to meet a friend now!
The virtual races are a good option to keep in touch with other runners and to improve the speed after the long period of lockdown.
I’m learning to embrace the idea of virtual races.
