Hello May!
I’m sure many of you will agree that April felt like an eternity! There was something energizing to me about getting to Friday and the first of the new month. I am so ready to flip the page and dive into this new month with some new goals. But first, here’s a quick rundown on the week that was…
Monday — 1+ hour physical therapy session
Tuesday — Peloton 15 min Core Strength and 10 min Arm Toning
Wednesday — 3 miles plus an hour at physical therapy
Thursday — Rest Day
Friday — 3 miles
Saturday — Hot Chocolate Virtual 5K
The highlight of the week was definitely social distance running with my brother for the Hot Chocolate Virtual 5K. Ironically, we had actually signed up for this race long before everything started going virtual. We liked that they were offering some fun swag and the money goes to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
We met at a local college that is actually the home to one of our favorite races so we knew there was a nice 5K loop there. And, since the campus is a popular place for runners and walkers we made it point to meet extra early so we had the place largely to ourselves. We agreed we weren’t out to set any PRs (I’m personally far from 5K racing shape!), so we kept it relaxed, kept our social distance, and had a great time catching up!

So to be honest my success with my April goals was a bit of a mixed bag. While I did a good job of getting back to my meditation practice and mixing up my cross-training, my eating was still all over the place, and at the physical therapist’s suggestion, I cut my mileage way back.
I’ve now been given the green light to build my base so that will be a big goal for the month:
- Get back to running at least 50 miles/month
- PT exercises 3x’s/week
- Family Plank Challenge – yes, we’ve got a plank challenge going on in the RWA household!
- Mindful eating — going to revisit this goal since I was so hit or miss in April
How was your April? Any virtual races coming up?
I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
Congratulations on the 5K!
Looks like you are ready for May with the green light from your PT!
A family plank challenge sounds fun – I wonder who will win?

My family can get super competitive so this plank challenge should get pretty interesting 🙂
April felt sooo long! Hope May goes a little better. I would love to get my miles back up but I am just not as motivated without my friends. Fun idea for a family plank challenge!
I’m pretty used to the solo runs, but I’m struggling to get motivated to run long without a race to train for.
The Hot Chocolate Virtual race gives out so much swag – that’s awesome! And I love that money from the race goes to a great cause.
I love that you have a family plank challenge for May!
We’re trying to keep it interesting over here so the plank challenge will be a little extra motivation to keep my boys focused on working out.
Yay family plank challenge! The boys are just starting to get in to fitness so hopefully someday they’ll be interested in doing something like that. Happy green light for May!

Thanks! I’m excited that the PT thinks I’m making progress!
So good to see you yesterday. I feel you on PT recovery and base building. I’m not ready to commit to that yet, but I’m optimistic it’s coming. Here’s to both of us healing. Congrats on the virtual race.
April felt short to me especially after the millennium that was March

I’ve definitely got to make sure I don’t overdo it – gotta add mileage slowly. I’m glad you’re feeling optimistic! Hopefully, we’ll both be back at it the way we want to be soon. Great seeing you this weekend 🙂
and like I recently said to Kim, once we’re back to “normal”, New England isn’t that far. Love to find a race with you two.
I would love that! 🙂
How fun to run virtually with your brother! You’re right HC has really fun swag. I love the idea of a family plank challenge. I’ll have to see if I can get anyone onboard around here.
The swag they offered was pretty crazy, especially for a virtual race! I miss going to races with my brother so I’m glad we found a way to do this one together.
Congrats on the HC 5k. They do have the best swag, don’t they?
Glad to hear that you’ve gotten the green light to get back on the road!
Thanks Wendy – it feels good to know that I’m making some progress with all of the PT I’ve been doing!
Did you and your brother plan on the orange gear? That’s great that you two could do that together. I LOVE that the family is planking!!!! I wonder if I could get my hubby to do that? Great job with all that PT 😉

Isn’t it funny that we both wore orange?! We totally didn’t plan it.
I think this plank challenge will be fun – I’m so glad my boys and hubby were all up for the idea!
I think with the change in routine for many, eating is definitely a challenge. The first step is recognizing it!
Hurrah for getting the green light on base building! Just at the right time, right?
Yes! Now hopefully Ma Nature will cooperate and serve up some nice running weather 🙂
congrats on your 5k. The swag for that race is my favorite. I would have signed up if I hadn’t done the real one.
Hope you stay healthy and can continue to run without pain.
Thanks Darlene – keeping my fingers crossed!
I think you had a great April! It felt long, but also not too long? I don’t know. Is this when Stockholm Syndrome sets in? May feels like it will be short.
I rocked my April goals, I think, just by virtue of running again! Yay! I have no idea what May will bring!

Stockholm Syndrome LOL!
It’s so great that you are back to running – here’s to a great May!
hooray for virtual racing with your brother! and that is some sweet swag!
glad you’ve been given the green light! progress feels good right? here’s to a new month!
it’s been great seeing you on the calls – I am so glad we are able to connect that way as well!

I’m so glad we’ve been able to catch up on the calls!
I love your virtual race with your brother! I miss running with people so much, I get really over-excited if I happen to run into someone I know on a run, which doesn’t happen that often.
I loved getting a chance to run with him! I miss racing together.
Congrats on the 5k. You got a very nice swag. Glad you could run with your brother.
I cannot wait to run again with my son.
This morning I have run the first virtual race (5 km) of my life.
