Virtually Connecting through April Coffee

What a difference a month makes! It feels like so much has happened since Deborah and Coco hosted last month’s  Ultimate Coffee Date. I’m glad they continue to host this little virtual escape as staying connected feels more important than ever. I’ve got a mug of Starbucks Pike Place in hand (homebrewed of course!), so let’s chat.

Ultimate Coffee Date – April Edition

Over coffee, I’d tell you that distance learning has begun in earnest in the RWA household. My middle schooler started a full schedule of classes this week and my high schooler dives in on Monday. I’m grateful that both boys’ schools are so well-equipped to meet the challenges of bringing the classroom online – I could not imagine taking on homeschooling right now.

Over coffee, I would also tell you that I’m not sure my dog is going to survive my younger son’s trumpet lessons via Zoom. Let’s just say he wanders the house whimpering and making other assorted sounds as he looks for a place to escape the melodious sounds emanating from my son’s trumpet. I have to bite my lip and not laugh…my son is not amused!

Over coffee, I’d tell you that I have really been enjoying the resurgence of family board games over the past couple of weeks. I am currently relishing my status as “ruler of the world” thanks to a victory in our last Risk game! On the other hand, I went down in an ugly defeat in Monopoly.

Over coffee, I’d tell you that I cannot believe that I am still on a search for toilet paper! Luckily we had a decent supply before the madness started and a couple of weeks ago came across a rare supply at Target. But I have to ask, now that we’re almost a full month into this virus crisis how is there still no toilet paper?

What would you tell me over coffee? What products are you not able to find in stores?

  1. Awh…it’s great to see the resurgence of board games 😉 It had been awhile (a long while) since our family had played any board games, but when we started doing our Sunday family dinners (in January), the games came back out. Well, now the Sunday dinners have halted (for the time being), but we’re doing ZOOM calls…and everyone seems to be enjoying them as much as the mom and dad LOL Maybe you and I need to go on a virtual walk someday (via FaceTime)?

  2. I really miss playing board games maybe I can get my family to join in. Your poor dog I hope he makes it! Thanks for joining us for coffee

  3. I’ve got the same thing in my coffee pot – no surprise there I guess. Thanks for the laugh thinking about your dog’s reaction to the trumpet lessons! I think we still have enough TP to last a few more weeks but it is getting worrisome!

  4. Haha, your dog reminds me of our dog when I was a kid and learned to play the flute. He would go crazy!
    Yay for board games!

  5. Your poor dog! I remember my brother’s ill advised tries with a trumpet. And even though eventually I was very good on my flute, it certainly didn’t start out that way.

So many parents dealing with home schooling in addition to working from home. Can’t.even.imagine.

Yes. Glad my kids are grown. Can’t imagine working from home and everyone home too.

My hubby found toilet paper in the hardware store.

  7. Toilet paper is still a hot commodity in my area, it’s so frustrating! We haven’t started playing board games but that is definitely a fun way to pass the time. My husband is obsessed with the Settlers of Catan, lol! Glad your kids are doing well online!

  8. That story about your dog and the trumpet lessons is hilarious! When I was learning to play the oboe, my dad asked me not to practice when he was home. I think he was joking..seriously, I hope your son sticks with it! He will get better.

We have been playing games here too. Last weekend we fired up the Wii and played MarioCart and Guitar Hero. it was so much fun!

    • We have some epic MarioCart races here – so fun!

My son really loves playing the trumpet…hopefully, for the dog’s sake, he’ll improve quickly LOL!

  9. Oh no! Sorry your dog is not feeling your son’s musical stylings on the trumpet. So funny though! Ozzy used to cry when my daughter played her flute but he seems to have adapted. Hooray for board games and family time!

  10. I’m really glad distance learning has been going well for your kids! (So sorry for your dog though, hahaha.) My friend has been having trouble finding toilet paper in stores near her–people need to stop hoarding!
