Weekly Run Down: Kicking Off 2020

This week was about squeezing the last bit of fun out of the holidays, wrapping up school break, and returning to work. I’m pretty pleased that throughout this holiday season I was consistent with my workouts, and this week was no exception.

Weekly Run Down – 2020 Kickoff

Monday — 3 miles. Icy rain had me running on the mill, but on the plus side, I got try out my new BibRave Pro singlet! This was my last run of the year bringing my yearly total to 806 miles.

Tuesday —  Core work and PT exercises.

Wednesday — 3 miles with my hubby to kick off 2020!

Thursday — Yoga. One of my goals for this year is to build a consistent yoga practice. So I plan to take advantage of my Gaia subscription to spend some quality time with Rodney Yee.

Friday — After missing out on Orangetheory all last week it felt great to get back to class! This was my first class with Coach Erin and I really liked her style!

Saturday — 6-mile run. I opted for running in the rain vs. the treadmill – I’m still struggling with the thought of running anything longer than 4 on the mill. Thankfully, it wasn’t a downpour. I’m six weeks out from my first race of 2020 so it’s time to start to increase my mileage a little.

Sunday — Rest day. Today was all about soaking up the last day of the boys’ winter break before my oldest had to return to campus.

Come tomorrow we’ll be back in the swing of our regular routine around here. Coach Marc and I have been discussing changing up my training a bit as we keep staying injury-free at the forefront of our plans. So I may be playing with heart rate training and running for time…more to come.

Another race on the schedule!

I’m super excited to announce that I will be running the Detroit Free Press International Half Marathon as a BibRave Pro! This race has been on my “want to run” list for a while so I’m really looking forward to running this one!

  1. Oh, Detroit????? Dang, I want to do that race some day, but it’s always the same weekend as Des Moines 🙁 I keep hoping one of these years, one of the races will change weekends. I’m just too loyal to DSM to go elsewhere. Anyways, you had a great week! I love those tights on your Saturday run. I have made it to 6 miles (ONCE) on the treadmill, and I just don’t think I could go 50 paces farther, so I totally get your anxiety about going farther than four!

  2. A good week and glad you got back to Orangetheory. I can’t bear running on the treadmill – I get so bored and also I got myself injured doing a lot of it then swapping back to the road (years ago!). So if I have to exercise indoors I do the same amount of time on a recumbent bike (with my book …). Hope the weather stays non-icy for as long as possible!

  3. Great week for you! We are all back to the grind here today and college daughter starts her new semester. I’ve heard all good things about DFP! That’ll be a fun one for you!

  4. I hear that Detroit race is a fun one. I just signed up for the Wine Glass half in NY in October. Just hoping I will be all healed by then. Running in the rain is fun sometimes if it’s not too cold. Happy New Year!

    • Ah, Wine Glass has been on my list for a while but I have yet to be able to make that weekend work with my schedule. I’m sure you’ll be healed by then – you seem to be making really good progress!

  5. You did a great job at staying consistent over the holidays!

  6. I know it was Zenaida (I think?) who love the Detroit race. Or was it the other Kim? I have to admit Detroit doesn’t call to me. I want something more scenic for MI (which I’ve never been to).

I didn’t think I’d be on the mill today, but it’s snowing & I know there’s black ice under there so I’m not going to chance it. I’m with you on not wanting to do longer runs on it. Helps that I’m not in training for a while.

    Have a great week, Michelle!

    • Yes, I remember Zenaida really enjoying it. I’ve heard nothing but good things and love the idea of crossing over into Canada for part of the race.

Definitely not worth the risk of the black ice – sometimes the mill is a necessary evil.

  7. I love those leggings you wore on your Saturday run, they look great! I’ve heard wonderful things about that Detroit race 🙂

  8. Great start to the year!! Keep it up!

  9. Oh I so want to do Detroit! I’m so happy for you!

Your weather looks every bit as gray and gloomy as what we have going on here. It makes it so hard to get motivated.

  10. Glad you were able to keep up with your fitness routine over the holidays. I think that makes all the difference come January. Congrats on Detroit — sounds like a fun race!

  11. Nice job this week! The half marathon sounds great. I need to get some races on my schedule soon!!!

  12. Happy New Year Michelle! and great that you are upping your mileage AND got back to OTF!! I know you missed it!

I SO want to run the Detroit Free Press!! One of these years if I’m still able!!

  13. Consistency is good! I think I am the only one who does not like the orange BR tank. Not my color at all! My son is going back to school tonight too
