Now that I’ve set my sights on a couple of fall races, it’s probably time that I get back to something that resembles a training plan! With just 10 weeks until the Harborside Half, I used this past week to get my training started.
Monday – Yoga
Tuesday – 3-mile run
Wednesday – 45 minutes of strength work including my PT exercises
Thursday – 3-mile run
Friday – Yoga
Saturday – 4.25 mile run. With temps in the mid 60’s, this was definitely my best run of the week. While my hammy still squawks a bit going uphill, it no longer feels so limited in the range of motion, which is a huge plus!
Sunday – Rest day
All-in-all a decent week. Since I haven’t run a half marathon since Fall 2017, I have no big goals for this race other than to finish upright and smiling…and uninjured! I’m happy I made my way to the yoga mat twice – I think yoga will do a lot to keep me from the injured reserved list. I am bummed that I didn’t make it to a kickboxing class last week. Now that I’m back to picking my son up in the afternoon from school, I’m still trying to figure out between work and pick-ups how to fit a class in. I determined to get to at least one class this week – ideally two.
And that’s a wrap on Week 1!
How was your week? Do you find it hard to make it to scheduled classes?
I’m linking up with Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap.
And with Erika, Marcia, and Patty for Tuesdays on the Run.
Glad to see that you had a good first week of training!
The weather the weekend was great,, despite the rain.
Thanks Kim 🙂
Sounds like the week went well! It’s definitely hard to make it to classes at times since they can’t be moved around to accommodate my schedule.

Exactly – I think that’s usually why I avoid taking classes.
That’s a great week!
I absolutely struggle with scheduled classes. It’s nice for the accountability, but I can’t always get there as planned. Fortunately, I have a neighborhood gym now, so I can get in my strength training under my own steam.
Keep up the awesome work!

Thanks Jenn!
Yay on the yoga! Are you going to a studio or doing it at home? I ran too early Saturday for the cooler weather, This weekend may be a wash out.

I’ve been doing yoga on my own. Of late, I’ve been following classes from the Daily Om.
I just started a new job so my schedule has been weird with workouts-I know it’s the same when my friends’ kids start back at school! Kudos on a great week!
Congrats on your new job!
I only have one day off during the week so I don’t have a lot of flexibility with working out either! Wouldn’t it be nice if we didn’t have to work at all? Plus we could hang out and feel sad about our sons being out of town together…
Ah to not have to work and be able to workout when you want?! Sounds perfect!
I am so glad to hear your hammie is doing better! Mine were so angry last weekend at my race, I am paranoid about doing too much to risk aggravating them further (probably going light or skipping squats/lunges until AFTER my marathon LOL)
Keeping my fingers crossed that your hammie stays quiet!
I am so glad that your hamstring is feeling better. I have not done a half in 2 years so I am hoping I can still get my butt in gear to train for the Philly half in November. It’s coming up soon!

I know what you mean – the time will fly by before we know it!
I usually end my week with Yoga class. Im always looking forward to it but have missed the last 3. Things have been pretty crazy lately. I need to get back to it. Hope you achive your goals of staying smiley and injury free.
Hope you can get back to your yoga class soon!
I work out at home, so no, no problem getting to classes usually. 🙂
That’s great that your stomach is feeling better — I’ll bet that feels really, really good. You’re off to a nice start & you definitely have the right attitude.

Thanks, Judy.
It’s great when the FIRST week of a new training cycle goes well! Kid pick-ups and general care tend to throw a spanner in the works when it comes to classes. Luckily the gym I go to has a kids area so I have been saved in the last few weeks by being able to “dump” them there while I do a class. So far so good.

Childcare at the gym can be a lifesaver for sure!
You make a great point about yoga. I’ve let it slide and I can feel it. Cheers to a great training cycle!

Thanks Marcia!
I am trying to add in more yoga. Good job getting there twice. It can be hard to get to scheduled classes for sure!

It definitely can be hard to fit it all in!
With the group fitness classes I teach I hardly get to take other classes. It is always nice to take a class and just zone out sometimes rather than teaching.
I bet it can be a nice break to just participate in a class vs teach it!
Yay for a great first week of training! Hopefully week 1 has set the stage for a great training cycle for you.

I don’t do so well with scheduled classes…and I have no excuse. If I had someone (like you) to go with, that would be huge motivator! How exciting to be training for a half marathon. I need to hit a registration button soon. Good luck with this training cycle. Thanks for linking!
