Last week’s goal was to get 3 runs, 2 strength and at least 1 yoga session, in addition to keeping up with the April Plank Challenge. Reality was a bit of a mixed bag, as I missed both a run and a strength session – I am rocking the planks. I’m not happy about missing the run, but sometimes juggling everything else in life just gets in the way.
It’s a good thing I’m planning on just running the BAA 5K with my husband and son for fun ’cause a respectable time is just not in the cards. I’m even thinking of just leaving the Garmin at home – Have you ever “raced” sans watch?
In other news…when I posted recently that I was doing the Naked Me 14-day tea detox, many of you expressed interest in hearing how things turned out. Well, in a word, I’m underwhelmed. After reading much about this detox across the interwebs, I was really looking forward to trying it. I figured it was a good fit since I’m already a big tea drinker and I liked the fact that there was no extreme diet attached to it.
The detox consists of two teas – the Boost Me morning tea, which is suppose to boost your metabolism, increase energy and regulate your blood sugar levels; and the Cleanse Me evening tea, which is suppose to promote digestion and detoxification. I have to say I just felt no special benefits from drinking these tea blends vs. the green teas I usually drink. I continued to eat healthy and exercise as I normally do and after two weeks I saw no significant changes…and no weight-loss. So there you have it. The only benefit of this two week experiment? I have returned to my evening tea habit, which is always a nice way to wind down at the end of the day.
What are your thoughts on doing a detox?
How’s your spring training going? I’m joining Erika, Patty and April again for Tuesdays on the Run.
When I ran my first 10K I had no watch because I couldn’t get it to connect…so I did feel a bit more carefree!
Too bad about the detox tea…maybe because you are a regular tea drinker the effects aren’t as dramatic? Hmm…

Hmm interesting theory…I’m just not sure if drinking their particular blends really make any difference in the end.
Life does get in the way sometimes, but good for you for not stressing over it. I hope you have fun at the BAA 5K because that’s what it’s all about!

Thanks Amy – that is what it’s all about 🙂
thanks for sharing your review of the naked tea. And I think you’ll have such fun in the 5k — I’m too anal to not wear my watch but I say go for it! Can’t wait to hear about it. 🙂

Truthfully I think I’m too anal too, but I might try it!
I don’t think I’ve ever raced sans watch but I definitely haven’t looked at it during a race. I’m doing the detox too and I really like the ritual of settling down and having tea. Not so sure on the weightloss yet.

Marcia I’ll be curious to see what you think of the detox when you’re done.
Thanks for sharing your experience with the Detox tea as it’s good to know. Enjoy your run! I haven’t ran without a watch as it would probably bug me, but I will have to try it sometime.

Sure – always happy to share the good…and not so good 😉
I wanted to run without my Garmin this past weekend but couldn’t do it. I did put it on for the race but I did not look at it the entire time!
I’ve run “naked” on just a regular run but never in a race.
I have never tried a detox b/c frankly, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t make it! Tea at the end of the day sounds nice, though. And yes, I always race sans Garmin but do keep an old fashioned chrono watch on just to check the occasional split. I race my very best this way b/c I don’t get freaked out by the numbers and just run by feel. Try it!

I’ve always been impressed by the fact that you can race that way!
I’ve only ever done a detox that involved big bottles of juiced veggies and I really didn’t feel like it changed a whole lot. And I could never do the Naked Tea one because I don’t like tea…
Have fun at the race! I have never intentionally raced without Garmin as I like to know my distance. I”m pretty good at relaxing about what the pace says…

Yea it’s those big bottles of juiced veggies that has scared me off of most detoxes! LOL! Don’t think I’ll be trying another one.
Appreciate the honesty on the tea detox. We all have less than perfect training weeks-keep moving forward 🙂

Sure always happy to share!
I look at my watch all the time when racing but almost never on long runs — until I’m done! No detoxes for me!

That’s interesting that you don’t look at it on your long runs. I think I’m sometimes too addicted to my watch no matter what the run!
