I’m a big believer in the power of mantras – especially during tough runs. Pushing through intervals on the ‘mill the other day this thought kept coming back to me and became my mantra du jour.
Now three weeks into the new year, I’d hope to have settled into a running groove. Instead it feels a little more like two steps forward then one step back. But as long as there is forward progress, I’ll get there!
Do you use mantras? If so, what’s working for you at the moment?
i mostly use mantras to push through challenging strength workouts – my go-to is “Hard is where it happens.”
Love it! I may have to borrow that one Coco!
I got my mantra from a spectator around mile 8 of the Grand Rapids half where I ran my current PR. Since I was only 6 days post marathon, I planned to run for fun. But I had more in the tank than I ever imagined. This lady shouted “you’ve got this. More than enough!” I always doubt I’ve done ‘enough’ training so this hit me in just the right place. MORE THAN ENOUGH!
Now that one of the best things I’ve heard someone yell at a race!
Mine? NO EXCUSES
No lie – I had No Excuses on a piece of paper taped to my mirror as a constant reminder!
You’re not alone Michelle. I too thought I’d be back into a good swing of things but I am not. I tend to find myself saying over and over again any of these 4 things:
“just do it”
“let’s go”
“you’ve got this”
“KEEP GOING!”
🙂
Thanks Maria – I hope we both find our groove soon!
I do have a number of mantra’s depending on the day 😉 one is from tony robbins “stronger and stronger every day” – then I start saying “stronger and stronger with every step.
