Catching Up Over February Coffee

There may only be 28 days in February but it is shaping up to be a busy month for me! For this week’s Fit Five Friday I’m linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date. So grab a mug and let’s catch up!

Catching Up Over February Coffee

Over coffee, I would tell you that I’m scheduled for hip replacement surgery in a couple of weeks! If you’ve been around here for a bit then you know I have tried all the things to help with my right hip issue, but nothing has worked and the arthritis has significantly worsened. My ortho connected me with a great surgeon who’s supportive of the idea of me eventually returning to running – first and foremost I’m just looking forward to much more pain-free mobility!

Over coffee, I would also share my other big news – I’m wrapping up my job and taking a much needed break! I can’t get into all of the details, suffice it to say that the nonprofit I was working for ran into some funding difficulties and the decision was made that it would merge with a bigger affiliate. I did start the job search process and had two very promising opportunities, but I quickly came to the conclusion that what I really wanted was some much needed time off!  I’m very fortunate to have this kind of flexibility and I’m sure that I won’t be idle for too long…but for now, I’m semi-retired 🙂

OK, your turn – what would you tell me over coffee?

  1. Wow Michelle those are two big bombshells! I’d find the hip replacement news absolutely shocking, except when you read my coffee post today, you’ll see why I don’t. Wishing you nothing but the very best on both the surgical and professional front!

  2. Deborah Brooks says

I did not realize you had decided on the hip replacement. Wish you all the best and hope that you find relief from the procedure. Keep us posted on your recovery. Sounds like it is the perfect time to take some time for yourself.

  3. Wow, that is big news! I hope the hip replacement goes well. I know you know this, but make sure they schedule you to start PT right away. My friend didn’t have the best care coordinator and had a gap of a few weeks from when she “should” have been able to start.

Nice on being able to be semi-retired for a while! Now you can enjoy your home reno and garden even more.

    • Interesting, I heard the same thing from a friend of a friend about not delaying PT. My surgeon’s told me I’ll start PT exercises even before I leave the hospital :0

I am so looking forward to some time off – work was an absolute grind the past 9 months! Glad to have it all behind me.

  4. Oh wow, Michelle, I hope your hip replacement goes well and you’re pain-free in no time. Congrats on the semi-retirement gig. The timing seems good with your upcoming surgery.

  5. Wow, a hip replacement! Hopefully it goes well and you are able to recover fast. And congrats on the job break/time off- hopefully you find some job and a way to keep busy (I’m sure you will!) – or busy enough 🙂

  6. That is big news!

I’ll say what I said to Marcia. I have friends who have gotten hip replacements and they are more active than before – tennis, golf, skiing, running, hiking. They have you up and walking right after the operation. Easier recovery than knee replacement or so I’m told.

Good luck with that and your job search.

    • Yes I’ve been told by many that the recovery is much easier than knee surgery – fingers crossed! I’m really looking forward to being on the other side of it.

  7. Oh gosh, never a dull moment! I hope all goes well with the surgery & your recovery is smooth. Great timing with the job situation. Enjoy some low-stress time while everything heals 🙂

  8. Those are both really big pieces of news! I hope your surgery goes well and brings you relief and I’m glad you’re getting a much-needed break! I’m sure that will be invaluable in your recovery process!

  9. Wow, two big news here! I hope your surgery goes well and you’ll be pain-free. I am happy and jealous of your job. I do wish I could leave mine, too. 🙂

  10. I’m glad you’ll have the time to focus on healing and PT. Big hugs on recovery and all the things.

  11. I hope you have a speedy recovery + that you will be pain-free soon!

Best of luck to you on the job search process but also hoping you get to really enjoy this much-needed break too!
