Hello Friday! It’s also time for another edition of Fit Five Friday and I’m starting off the weekend with a little catch-up over the Ultimate Coffee Date with Coco and Deborah. So grab a mug of your favorite beverage and let’s chat for a bit!
Five Things Over May Coffee
Over coffee, I would tell you how much fun I had over the Boston Marathon weekend. Bib distribution is always fun – I especially love it when runners are so excited they ask you to be in their “bib pick-up photos”. I ended up working alongside an older gentleman named Bill who was a trail race director and had run Boston among other marathons. It was a good time chatting with him about running and racing. I also had some fun meet-ups with the Brooks Run Happy Team -. the VIP Party on Saturday night, and then on Sunday a team meet-up.
Over coffee, I would tell you that I also attended Rewriting the Narrative Authors Panel at the Boston expo featuring Alison Mariella Desir, Kara Goucher, Lauren Fleshman, and Christine Yu. It was oh so good! I read Allison’s book, “Running While Black” earlier this year (if you haven’t read it you need to!) and I have Kara’s book sitting on my Kindle. I’ll definitely get to Lauren’s and Christine’s soon.
Over coffee, I would tell you that I’m looking forward to running my first race of 2023! The Mystic 10K is just a little over two weeks away. I love that my hubby will also be running it. It feels like forever since my last race in November.
Over coffee, I would tell you that my college boy just has exam week standing between him and coming home. I can’t wait to have everyone under one roof this summer!
Over coffee, as is typical for the month of May, I would tell you that I am on the hunt for our family’s summer vacation. Currently, we looking at cruises around Alaska.
OK your turn, what would you share over coffee? Have you ever been to Alaska?

I love that you got to meet all the Brooks runners and Ariella at the Boston Marathon! Such a fun crew! I’m waiting for Christine’s book to be released so i can read it!
A trip to Alaska sounds amazing! We’re planning a mini family vacation around the Leadville race. Still trying to talk the hubs into going, tho. 🙁
Good luck on your race!
It was fun to finally meet some of the Brooks team in person!
Is your son running Leadville too? I hope you can talk your husband into going!
Oooh, Alaska!
Oh, how fun to attend that panel. I am so excited for Christine’s book and excited for her since I’ve “known” her for so long.
Yay on your son coming home soon.
I know what you mean about Christine – I remember reading her blog way back when. I’m excited for her!
Our cruise to Alaska was one of our best rips ever! So much to see and do. I vote for that! A 10K sounds l Ike the perfect place to start off the year and how fun to do with your husband. My husband has agreed to a 5K in June
I know so many who have enjoyed Alaska – I hope we can make it work!
That’s great that you and your husband will be running a race together too 🙂
Alaska is amazing ! Except most cruisers seem to get sick so I’m kinda off cruises right now.
Sounds like you had such a fun weekend ! I know you really needed that (but it must’ve been tiring too).
I hope you have a great race! I swear at this rate there may not be races for me. We’ll see.
Chocolaterunsjudy recently posted…Dogs & Tech: Tea/coffee Date May 2023
Our last cruise was in 2019. We wouldn’t have considered a cruise these past couple of years for obvious reasons, but far less concerned about it now.
Hopefully, things will settle down enough for you that you can take on a race some time in the fall.
Your son and my son are on the same schedule! Just exams, and then he’ll be done.
I hope you do the Alaska cruise so we can hear all about it. I’ve never been to Alaska (other than having a layover in the Anchorage airport, which doesn’t really count.)
Your Boston weekend sounds fun! So many great running books out now- I’m way behind. I just finished Des’s but haven’t read the others, yet.
Yay for your son being home soon too! Will you drive out to pick him up or will he fly home?
There are so many good running books out now – I need to make more time for reading to fit them all in!
The Boston weekend really sounds like a runner’s dream! (As does the Alaskan cruise) The upcoming 10K will be a great segway into summer …best of luck to you & the hubby!
Thanks so much Kim 🙂
We went to Alaska in 2007 with friends and I paced a friend in the Midnight Sun Marathon. We loved it.
Thanks again for volunteering at Boston. The Brooks house and panels looked awesome.
I loved Lauren’s book. So good! (and Des’, too!)
What a fun way to see Alaska!
I really do enjoy volunteering – the energy is infectious!
I would LOVE to go to Alaska. Hopefully some day!
I know you are so happy to have your boy back home!
Can’t wait for him to be home for the summer!
That sounds like such a great experience at the Bostom Marathon!
Yes, I have been to Alaska. It wasn’t any place I ever wanted to go ( I’m a Florida gal), but I agreed to go for my Husband’s birthday. I am so glad I did, it was amazing. One of my favorite activites was the train ride through the Yukon trail. I think it was called the White Pass or something like that. ( I wrote about it on the blog). If you go to Alaska, check it out! Have a great weekend friends!
Oh I bet that ride through the trail offered some amazing views! I’ll have to go back and check out your post.
expos already inspire me, but to be at the boston expo handing the bibs out to runners and chatting with others about running just seems amazing to me! and so awesome that you got to meet up with the run happy crew! by the way, love seeing your hair down, looks so good! (we tend to always see each other with running hair, don’t we? hahaha!)
it HAS been a long time since your last race!! how fun it will be with your hubby!
The expo was such a good vibe – I left thinking “I should run another marathon” lol
Ha so true about “running hair” – thanks 🙂
It’s been six months since my last race – let’s hope I remember what I’m doing!
Alaska is on my bucket list.
That brooks event sounded so exciting
I do enjoy volunteering at races. The best would be at a major.
You are ready to race for sure. That’s so cool that your hubby is doing it with you.
Thanks Darlene – I hope I am ready. I don’t think it will be a terribly speedy one but I’m okay with that. Running the race with my hubs will be fun no matter what.
Glad you had a great time volunteering! I am sure it was a blast. Years ago I went on a running cruise in Alaska and enjoyed it. Alaska is a place for a vacation.
