Happy Friday!
Thanks for joining Darlene, Jenn, Renee, Zenaida, and me for another edition of Fit Five Friday. This week we’re talking Favorite Fitness Power Songs. Of course, you should always feel free to write about any fitness/wellness-related topic.
I definitely like to/need to have music on my runs and I keep a pretty wide variety of songs on my playlists – though you’ll never find a country song! My “favorites” depends a lot on my mood, but here are five songs that are currently in rotation often.
Five Fave Fitness Power Songs
“About Damn Time” by Lizzo — Honestly it was hard to just pick one Lizzo song. She just makes me smile.
“Glow Up” by Meek Mill
“Run Run Run” by Jill Scott — I mean with a title like that how can you not include it?!
“Back in Black” by AC/DC — My youngest son got me to add this one to my library and I find myself playing quite a bit.
“Don’t Stop the Music” by Rihanna
“Wake Me Up” by Avicii
Yes, I know that’s actually six songs…I had a hard time taking one off the list. 🙂
I’ve got a race in two weeks so as I put my next playlist together, tell me some of your favorite power songs.

I need to add your songs to my list.
Though I don’t race with music.
I will sometimes turn my music off during a race but I like to have it available.
AC/DC for the win!!!! The Iowa football team plays Back in Black as they walk from the locker room before their games. The cameras show them walking as the music plays & the crowd goes wild!
It is a good hype song!
ooh I didn’t know Glow Up or Run Run Run but I had a listen! totally get the running vibe. And yeah Lizzo and Rihanna are regular occurrences on my lists! I almost even added Lizzo “Good as Hell” for my post! ha! And if you want another Rihanna for your list “Only Girl in the World” is an EXCELLENT running tune.
Oh so right about “Only Girl in the World” – I need to add that one!
I mostly listen to books and podcasts when I run, but I love hearing Roar by Katie Perry, Unstoppable and Mambo Number 5 in races among other upbeat songs. This is a great list. Love Lizzo and Rihanna and this Aviici song.
It’s funny I love to listen to books and podcasts when I’m walking but can’t do it when I run. Unstoppable and Roar are good ones!
My songs are too dorky to be “power songs.” I’ll check out some of yours- I can always use some new tunes.
LOL – I hope you find one you like 🙂
I just added that Lizzo song to my running playlist–the best pump-up song in a long time! Some of my songs aren’t what you’d consider a pump-up song, but songs that get me in the feels and make me dig deep.

You just can’t go wrong with a Lizzo song!
Isn’t it so hard to choose??? I love music, and while I don’t always listen to it while I’m running, I am all in to anything by Lizzo!
It is hard to hard to choose! Music really is such a mood booster for me.
Fight Song, Rachel Platten is my baby.

Ooo that’s a good one!
I agree that it is hard to limit it to 5 songs. I’ve heard of Lizzo (who hasn’t) but have never listened to her music.
I definitely encourage you to check out her songs!
