Five Races for 2023

As I continue to make steady progress with my physical therapist, my thoughts are slowly starting to turn toward potential races I want to run this year. I love the fun, camaraderie, and challenge races can provide! For this week’s Fit Five Friday I’m sharing some races I’m hoping to run this year.

Five Races for 2023

Mystic 10K (May) – I actually just registered for this one and for added fun my husband is going to run it too! HMF events put on a great race so I’m looking forward to this one.

Newport 10M (June) – I haven’t run this race since the inaugural race and now it’s preparing to celebrate its 10th anniversary. Time flies! This race offers a beautiful course that includes both the infamous Newport mansions and beautiful coastal views.

Ocean Road 10K (October) – I have run this race in 2018 and 2021. I love this course and had planned to run it last year, but it collided with college parents’ weekend.

Western MA 10M (November) – I ran the inaugural race last year and really liked the point-to-point course and post-race vibe. As soon as I finished this race I knew I wanted to run it again.

As for #5? I’ve got a couple of options I’m thinking about – ZOOMA Cape Cod (September), Ted Corbitt 15K (December), and the MR8K (December) are all possibilities. Also, Run Happy Team members are being offered the opportunity to participate in Brooks-sponsored races, so for me, this could mean the Philadelphia Distance Run (September half), Twin Cities 10M (part of the Twin Cities Marathon weekend in October), or the Indianapolis Monumental Half (late October).

So yes, there could easily be more than five races and, as long as injuries stay at bay, I’m here for it!

What races are you planning to run this year?

  1. These all sound like fun races. Hope you do run them.

Not sure for me. More details in that in the next run down

  2. Ooh Mystic sounds really nice! I also look at the Philly distance run every year but its still quite warm for training and racing in September. I could be talked into it perhaps. HOpe I get to see you this year

    • I know what you mean about the Philly Distance Run – September can still be hot and humid. I passed on it last year but I’m thinking about it. I hope to see you too!

  3. Ooh! Fun – I like the Philly Distance Run and all the races in Central Park! I’m doing NYC Half, Shamrock Shuffle, Boston Marathon, Mountains2Beach and Chicago 13.1 – that’s just through June 4. Oy!

  4. I had to look that up to make sure that was in Mystic, Connecticut. That just made me smile. My husband and I met in the Navy while stationed in Groton. I have fond memories of Mystic. I also like you have a 10-mile race on there. I’d love to run some at that distance. That seems like a sweet spot for distance.

I am so hopeful that I will run at least some 5Ks this year.

  5. Those are fun races you are planning for this year! So far I have signed up for 3 races in 3 different cities and am looking at a couple more here in Chicago.

  6. These all sound good! 10K’s and 10 milers are great distances. Glad you’re feeling healthy and making progress with the PT- it’s fun to start planning races again. Like Darlene, I have some racing updates in my next run down as well!

  7. This is a super nice variety of events! I am kind of going one race at a time, right now. Current circumstances aren’t letting me plan too far ahead.

  8. I mean I’m advocating for Ted, but we all know I’m biased 😀 Indy Monumental is on my bucket list. Newport one is intriguing!
