I’m not gonna lie, this final week of this whirlwind year was a bit of a rollercoaster. While it’s been great to have some much-needed time off from work, having my mom in the hospital has been stressful. Thankfully she’s been steadily improving and will be heading to rehab. There has been a lot of family chill time filled with games, movies, and lots of food.
My workouts took on a “whatever you feel like” vibe this week and I’m good with that. Here’s how things played out….
Week 52 – Wrapping up 2022
Monday — Core & Lower Body Strength. It was family pajama day but snuck in a quick stack of Peloton classes before anyone else was up.
Tuesday — 3-mile walk & Yoga
Wednesday — 3-mile run & Core
Thursday — 30 min. Bodyweight Full Body Strength
Friday — 3-mile run
Saturday — 3.25-mile run
Sunday — Currently lingering over coffee. The family joined me for a 2.5-mile walk earlier this morning. Undecided on what’s next.
With Saturday’s miles, I wrapped up the #3for31 Challenge and finished the year with 836 run/walk miles. I also racked up 10,928 minutes on the Peloton app.
I’m still noodling over my 2023 fitness goals — will there be more races than the four I did in 2022? Will I stick with 10M or less in distance or will there be a half marathon in the mix? How many Peloton minutes will be logged? While I ponder these questions, I am diving right into the ZOOMA Love Run Challenge for six weeks of a daily run or walk and core work.
In case you missed it:
How was your week? Any big goals for 2023? Wishing you all a very happy new year!
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down.
I’m so glad your mom is on the mend. That’s so stressful and it sounds like you’re taking the right approach when it comes to fitness right now!
Thanks Jessie 🙂
Sorry to hear your mother has been unwell 🙁 Such weeks, whatever you feel like workouts can be a good approach! My main goal this year is to feel comfortable with running and to continue my strength training.
I hope you continue to make good progress with your running – it will start to feel better over time.
I’m so glad things are better with your mom! I’m sure it was hard, having her in the hospital for Christmas. Maybe you can do another celebration when she comes home!
I’m not setting big goals this year–I’m going to take it as it comes and make sure to incorporate lots of fun and adventure!

Thanks Wendy – we’ll definitely plan something special once she’s home.
It’s funny I haven’t set any big fitness goals in a couple of years, but I’m kinda itching to put something out there. We’ll see. Your plan for fun and adventure sounds like a good one!
It is so stressful when our parents are ill. My mom was also sick and they were really stressing me out. Things really seem to change on a dime w them as they age. Hope your mom will be allowed to come home soon.
So true about how quickly things can change – it really is so stressful. I hope your mom is feeling better.
My week was busy. No time off. I even work tomorrow.
Congrats on that challenge.
Good news about your mom.
I haven’t set any big goals for 2023. Just more of the same. Maybe we’ll meet up this year. We’re both a train ride from NYC
Yes an NYC race would be fun! I’d love to get back to the city this fall.
I’m so glad your Mom is getting better and hope she is able to be home soon.
Nice that you got some chill family time over the holiday — that is so precious these days.
I’m not great at setting goals, but I do like sticking to my workout schedule and seeing how things add up.
The low-key week with the family was a nice counter to the stress of mom being in the hospital. Seeing her make progress helped!
I haven’t set annual goals in a couple of years but I’m leaning toward laying out some bigger goals this year to push myself a bit.
Even with your life being turned a little topsy-turvy with your mom in the hospital, you still got in some good workouts. I hope your mom does well at rehab and is back home soon!
Happy New Year!

Thank you Debbie 🙂 Happy New Year!
I’m glad to hear your mom is doing better! I honestly have not had time to think about any specific goals for 2023. I do need to be much more diligent with the prehab stuff my PT has been “forcing” on me…I think it needs to just be a daily thing, hands-down.
I’m so glad PT is working for you. I know once I start it will need to be an ongoing process.
I’m sure it’s been VERY stressful to have your mother in the hospital. Glad to hear she’s getting better. Other than that it sounds like you had a nice Christmas! Glad you had time off from work.
Your new challenge sounds good- a nice way to kick off the year!
Definitely a crazy time, but I feel like things are settling a bit more. Having the time off from work was just what I needed!
Continued healing vibes are headed your mom’s way. That is stressful for sure and I like your “whatever you feel like” strategy. My fitness has been and will continue to be on auto pilot this year. I set coaching and professional goals and some organizing-related ones. That’s the stuff that’s not yet on auto pilot. Haha! Happy New Year and yay for the Love Run!
Thanks for the good vibes 🙂
I definitely need to set some organizing goals – I feel a huge clutter purge coming on LOL
Looking for to Love Run! Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! I hope your mom has a speedy recovery. I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday.
I’m looking forward to having more fun in Peloton, running, and actually doing more blogging this year!

Thanks Janelle! I look forward to reading more about what you’re up to this year 🙂
Happy New Year! I am so glad to hear your mom is on the mend. What a relief.
No huge goals at the moment. I want to run our big, local 15K, but other than that, I don’t know. Maybe back to one race a month. That would be nice.
Ooo a race a month sounds like a fun goal! I’d definitely like to run a few more races than I did last year – I miss that energy!
Hope your mom continues to get better. having parents get older is so stressful – when they’re sick it’s hard to not feel helpless. Hope you still had a good holiday.
It’s so true – you feel like you should be able to do more. The waiting is the hardest part!
Happy New Year! Congratulations on finishing the year strong by completing the #3for31 challenge.
I’m happy to hear that your mom continues to improve. I continue to keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
Thanks so much Kim – I really appreciate it!
I know it was a stressful situation with your mom. Glad she is doing better and on the road to recovery with rehab. You did well in 2022 and I look forward to follow along in 2023.
Thank you Zenaida – I feel like I can relax a little knowing that she’s moving on to rehab.
The build-up to Christmas is always so manic and every year I tell myself, I need to make it easier, and it never is! So sorry again about your mum but glad to hear she is going for strength to strength. Wishing her all the best with rehab and next steps.
