As I mentioned over coffee, re-entry after being off for the holidays was a tad rough. Work went from zero to sixty with everyone wanting to do “all the things” all at once! My mom was transferred to rehab on Tuesday so there’s been a lot to navigate there – but she’s doing great so that’s a win!
With all that was going on, my workouts were pretty much on auto-pilot, but I got ’em done.
Monday — 3 miles & Core
Tuesday — 2-mile walk, otherwise rest
Wednesday — 1-mile walk, Lower Body Strength & Core
Thursday — 1-mile walk & Peloton Bike
Friday — 3 miles & Core. Sleet had me heading to the treadmill, but vibing out to a fun 80’s playlist helped to get the miles done.
Saturday — 2-mile walk, Upper Body Strength & Core
Sunday — 4 miles & Core
Setting Some 2023 Goals
For the past couple of years, I have passed on setting any big annual fitness goals, choosing instead to set smaller monthly goals to keep me on track. For 2023 I’ve decided to set just a few goals:
- Reach the starting line of my Spring and Fall races feeling prepared — I’m looking forward to doing more racing this year, and so above all else, I want to go into each race feeling strong and ready to go. This means being consistent in my training to build mileage smartly.
- Develop a PT maintenance routine — As I’ve mentioned before, I spent way too much time last year playing a cat-and-mouse game with my quad/hip flexor injury. I’ll be starting this year with PT and my goal is to develop a routine to follow well after my sessions with the therapist are done.
- Complete 12K Peloton minutes — I hit over 10,000 minutes in 2022 so I think 12K is doable.
- Stretch daily — Focusing on my flexibility will go a long way toward helping me reach goal #1.
In case you missed it:
How was your week? Any races coming up?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down.
Really important goals… I see the word “core” often in your week. Good for you.
I hope you stay healthy and are able to do those races that you enjoy.
Yes, consistent core work will be front and center this year!
I really like the goals you have set. It is not always fun to easy to fit in all of the PT, stretching and mobility work but it really does pay off huge. I hope it does for you! So glad your mom is doing better 🙂
Thanks Deborah – seeing her improve has been such a relief.
Great goals and very achievable imho. I definitely need to do more focusing on PT/rehab/stretching. Maybe now that I have that new workout space, I’ll feel more motivated!
The on-again, off-again approach to all the rehab/stretching stuff has just not been working for me so I’ve got to find a way to make time for everything – easier said than done, but I’m gonna try.
These are some important goals. Very good to get to do PT – and flexibility work too. I hope all goes well, and good luck with those races coming up.

Thank you Susanne 🙂
I did miss your word for 2023 so I went back and read that post- I like it! I think it will serve you well. Your goals for the year are good. Focusing on PT and stretching should help a lot to get you to your races.
Fingers crossed!
I do so much at my PT sessions, it’s tough to do them at home, LOL (I know that’s a very common thing for a lot of people, though). I hope PT goes well for you! I’ve had other PT work before, but this “new” gal I’ve been working with for the past couple months has really been a great fit. Nice goals for 2023, Michelle 😉
It really sounds like you found a great therapist. I hope I’m just as lucky!
It looks like you’ve got a good plan in place to get stronger during your off-season. I think having a PT maintenance routine and regular stretching will go a long way in getting you ready for your spring races.
It’s so nice to hear that your mom is doing better. I hope she continues to improve daily!

It looks like a lot of us are focusing on the basics this year — let’s hope our plans come through!
You had a solid week to start the year!
You set some great goals Michelle! May 2023 be a year of injury-free running for both of us. Stretching is always something I need to do more of as well.
Good luck with everything from the stretching to the racing! I, for one, can’t wait to see you crush your goals this year! A big one for me is to run strong Half Marathons again. It’s my favourite distance but I just haven’t been fit enough for them recently. So will chase this goal with lots of energy!

I can totally relate to work going from 0 to sixty. While it’s nice when everyone has time off, the first week back sucks because everyone is so amped up and want to do like 500 things, lol.
I love the goals that you set for 2023. I’m right there with you on the stretching goal. Of course I’ve already fallen off on that goal but I’m determined to get back on track!
Re-entry has SUCKED. You have some great goals set up and I have no doubt you will achieve them.
I’m glad to hear that your mom is rocking rehab AND you’ve been able to stick to your fitness routine, too — I’m sure it helps a lot. I hope it’s upwards & onwards for you, Michelle!
You have great goals for this year! They are all important and will help you get to the start and finish lines. Great news about your mom!
