Can you believe that we’re at the end of 2022?! Well, before we put this year in the rearview mirror, Marcia has opened the runfessional so we can stride into the new year with clear souls soles. It’s also time for another Fit Five Friday hosted by Darlene, Renee, Jenn, Zenaida, and yours truly, so let’s get started.
End of Year Runfessions
While the slow and easy approach over these past few weeks appears to have helped my hip flexor/quad issue quite a bit, I runfess that I’m not fully convinced that I’m out of the woods yet.
I have rationalized that I could stick with what I’m currently doing and see how things go, but I also runfess that I’m growing tired of this cat-and-mouse game. So, I checked in with my primary care doc the other day to get a referral for PT.
I can’t believe I’m saying it, but I runfess that I’m excited about starting PT (someone please remind me in a couple of weeks that I said this!). I’ve got races I want to run next year and I’d really like to toe the line not hobbled.
How about you – do you tend to go the PT route or try to course correct on your own?

Since it seems like the same injury over and over, I think PT is a good idea! They can address imbalances that we can’t, which is why I check in with ours (we have one at the gym) to fix those little niggles. Excited for you to get answers and get moving!
Happy New Year!
Thanks Wendy! Happy New Year to you too 🙂
I’m a huge believer in PT, but I’m not convinced going to PT would help me at this point. I know all the exercises. I DO all the exercises. I’m thinking of finding a chiropractor again to see if I’ve got some alignment issues that can be fixed ….
Hopefully we both figure out soon!
I hope a chiropractor is the difference maker for you!
As you know, PT has been a good course for me in recent months. I runfess, a lot of the exercises my gal has me doing are ones that I know I should have been doing all along…but she has really spiced up the work. I’ve had DOMS repeatedly from the sessions, LOL. Fingers crossed things go as well for you (#fistbump).
It’s been great to hear and see that PT has been paying off for you! I’m ready to dive in!
I think PT is a good idea at this point. It can be really helpful to have someone take a look at your form and give you some exercises that are specific to you. I also really “enjoy” dry needling and some of soft tissue massage they can do. Let us know how it goes
I’ve gotten back to a regular schedule of massage which has been really helpful. I only tried dry needling once years ago – I appreciate you putting enjoy in quotes LOL
I would choose the PT route… that’s why we pay for insurance.
Hope it helps so you can do your 2023 races.
Me too – I have my eye on some races but want to be feeling good before I hit the registration button.
PT makes sense. Having a recurring injury is so tough – professional help is the way to go!
Wishing you a happy and healthy ’23!
Thanks Erica – wishing you the same!
Ah, well i usually try to resolve issues on my own, but that doesn’t always go well. PT is probably the way to go for you. It will be good- you’ll resolve this issue and get really strong and balanced so nothing else crops up in the future. Good luck with it! And, Happy New Year!
I’m usually a do-it-yourselfer too but in this case, my patience is starting to wear thin. Fingers crossed!
Happy New Year to you too Jenny!
I really prefer doing things on my own, but sometimes, you just need extra help. I hope you are in the clear soon.
Thank you Jenn 🙂
injuries suck! fortunately here we can just go to the physio when we need to and I have the “extra” insurance package with like 30 or 40 visits included per year (also includes dry needling, acupuncture, manual therapy, cupping, etc). Regardless of that I am still all for getting help when things aren’t improving on their own. And I definitely did that this year to get to Chicago in one piece, so it makes sense (also, my PT is very easy on the eyes and an all-around nice guy, but did I mention he’s easy on the eyes? haha).
I hope you get the help you need and things improve soon! Here’s to a less-injured to non-injured new year!
Easy on the eyes wouldn’t hurt LOL Here’s to an injury-free 2023!
I don’t think PT is ever a bad idea! If only it weren’t so expensive. Good luck!
I tend to try to cross correct on my own, but I have sought PT when it was necessary.
Thankfully some of the PT visits will be covered by insurance – I still need to figure out how many sessions I’ll get.
Sorry that same nagging pain is coming back again! So frustrating! When i get niggles i pay my sports chiropractor a visit and he makes everything right again. It’s amazing.
That chiro sounds like a keeper for sure! Hopefully, PT will be the key for me.
