Hello Friday! This was one of those weeks where I was having a hard time keeping track of what day it was – basically I was ready for Friday by the end of the day Tuesday, ha!
But now, it IS Friday and time for another edition of Fit Five Friday – and what better way to kick off the long weekend than with a little coffee catch-up with friends? I’m joining Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date, so grab a mug, and let’s chat!
October Coffee Chat
Over coffee, I would tell you how fun it was to visit my son last weekend for Parents Weekend. We hit the football game with a food truck tailgate on Saturday and a big riverside family picnic on Sunday. In between, we checked out some of the local restaurants for some great meals, took him shopping, and soaked all the goodness of campus life. He seems happy and settled in so, of course, that makes me one happy mama 🙂
Over coffee, I would tell you that my husband and I are celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary next week. 30 years?! That number just sounds crazy to me. Since we’ve got our Sonoma getaway planned for next month, we’ll probably just go out for a nice dinner.
Over coffee, I would tell you that I’m on a mad hunt for a dress for my company’s big fundraising gala that’s coming up at the end of the month. The event is being held in an upscale nightclub and I need the right vibe, but so far no luck.
Over coffee, I’d ask you for suggestions for Halloween costumes for my husband and me. We’ve been invited to a party later this month so the clock is ticking to come up with costumes…and so far, I’ve got nothing.
What would you tell me over coffee? Any big plans for this month?

So glad to hear that your son is happy at college. It’s fun to see them in their element, isn’t it?
Happy anniversary! And that dress is perfect for your work event, lol
Thanks Wendy! That dress would be quite the statement wouldn’t it 😉
Happy to hear your son is doing well.
Sonoma sounds like a perfect place to celebrate the big event.
Ugh. On dress shopping. No fancy events for me. Yay.
I love to dress up. Super heroes?
Thanks Darlene – it’s great to see him happy 🙂 I wish I did love dressing up – I think I’ve lost my costume mojo lol
Isn’t parent’s weekend the best? It’s so great to see the kids happy and having fun! Congrats on 30 years! Seriously where have all the years gone. Sheesh! Good luck with finding that dress. I do not envy that task!
It is the best to see them having fun! I honestly cannot believe we’re celebrating 30 – time really does go by too fast.
So glad you had a good parent’s weekend — and good weather for it!
I am not a fancy person, but I used to have good luck finding dresses at Macy’s or Nordstrom. I also am not a costume person! No wonder I’m always home on Friday nights. 😉
Happy 30th! We marked our 34th last weekend with a very low-key dinner out. I was supposed to be at a work retreat that was canceled due to Ian, so we weren’t planning on anything. We’ll have to make plans for our 35th.
Happy Anniversary!
I’m not much of a costume person either, but I’m trying to get into the spirit. I was on the Nordstrom website earlier today and have a couple of dresses in my cart – I think I’ll order a bunch since they have such a great return policy.
Ooh I wish close enough to go shopping with you! I just bought a few dresses for events in November. I saw much more selection on line so I ordered a few and then returned the ones that didn’t work. Happy anniversary! You will have so much fun In Cali next month. Glad your son is so happy at college!
I wish you were close enough to shop with me too! If you have any suggestions for good websites to check out please send them my way. I don’t have a ton of time to hit the stores so I’ll definitely be shopping online.
Happy 30th!!! Looks like you have a busy month with lots of fun dress-up occasions to enjoy. Glad to hear the college son is doing well 😉 That’s an exciting time!
Thanks Kim 🙂 October seems to always be a busy month around here!
Ugh- although I love Halloween, I’m really bad at costumes. I’m equally bad at buying a dress for a fancy event- I think I would just go with the dress in your pictures for both (ha ha.). Or, have Deborah come shopping with you (I just read her comment.)
I’m so glad your son is happy at school! One of these years- when I don’t drive my son to school in August- I want to go up for a fall visit. But I’ve decided I don’t want to actually go on Parent’s Weekend because it’s still too hot in Texas.)But I do want to see a football game. Maybe next year!
Oh I hope you get to make it out there for a fall visit – I bet going to a Baylor football game would be so much fun!
I’m afraid I can’t help you with costume ideas. We don’t do anything about Halloween — and won’t be here either.
Our anniversary (37) is also this month, and same deal — since we’ll be traveling later in the month, maybe we’ll have a nice dinner. If the weather cooperates we might go somewhere for a hike . . .

Happy Anniversary Judy!
Happy 30 years coming up! Sonoma sounds wonderful.
How fun that you will be going to a Halloween party. Can’t wait to see what you picked!
Thanks so much – I can’t wait for our Sonoma trip 🙂
Aww, a Sonoma getaway sounds awesome! Happy upcoming anniversary — time flies!
I wish I had good ideas for costumes, but I rarely dress up. :/ I hope you figure out something cool! Best of luck finding a dress too! (The one in the picture would be hilarious!
Isn’t that dress priceless?! It could probably make a fun costume, but I wonder how hard it would be to move in it lol.
Congrats on 30 years!! No tips on dresses since I rarely buy any for nice events. 😀 Haha, I love that dress though. I also need idea for Halloween. My students have already asked me about my costume.
Oh I can’t wait to hear what you come up with for a costume! 😉
Happy 30! That’s amazing. Love the dress meme, you could totally rock it. Have you looked at Rent the Runway? I lucked out at Macy’s of all places when I needed a cocktail dress this spring.
My friend and I are doing a Halloween race as the ninja turtles because we love hitting the turtle pond when we run. Not particularly helpful, but in case it gives you ideas of favorite places you two enjoy

Thanks Cari 🙂
Someone else had just mentioned Rent the Runway to me – I’ll have to check it out. I just ordered a bunch of dresses from Nordy’s – hoping something works!
You’ll have to post of pic of the Ninja Turtle costumes! Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
I would wear that champagne dress.
Dress shopping stinks. I really struggle wearing heels after my injury, which makes it even harder. I have a cocktail dress worthy event on Thursday, and I hope II can make something work.
And I am so glad you had fun with your son! That sounds like a great weekend!
