Week 36 – Back to School

This week felt long for so many reasons….

…there were long commutes to the office – the roads were extra crowded after the long weekend

… there was trying to settle into a new routine as my highschooler returned to school – navigating the drop-offs and pick-ups

…. and yes, there was the heartbreaking news of Eliza Fletcher – she was in my thoughts during each run this week.

As always, running and working out provided much-needed stress relief. Here’s how the week in workouts went down.

From Friday’s late-day miles

Week 36 – Back to School

Monday — 1.5 mile walk & Yoga. I woke up tired from a poor night of sleep – thankfully I had the day off for the holiday. It was rainy so it was a day of indoor projects.
Tuesday — 2-mile walk, otherwise rest. A l-o-n-g workday – I was happy to slip out of the office for a head-clearing walk.
Wednesday — Full Body Strength, 1-mile walk & Stretch. I stacked a couple of Peloton’s bodyweight strength classes and was reminded of how great of a workout you can get without weights! I popped out for a quick mile walk to keep my #OptOutside streak going.
Thursday — 3-mile tempo run, Core & Stretch.
Friday — 4-mile run & Stretch. This was a rare late-day run – we had a surprise party on Thursday night for our CEO who’s retiring soon. It was so much fun, but after dancing in heels, my legs needed a minute before they were ready to run.
Saturday — 2-mile walk with a friend & Upper Body Strength.
Sunday — 5-mile run & Stretch.

Work will continue to be off the chain this week, but I’m hoping to find more of a groove with the school schedule.

How was your week?

  1. Heels? What are those?! Your photo from your Friday run is lovely, though!

Here’s hoping that you settle into a smoother routine soon. Maybe the weather could too, LOL!

  2. I think a lot of us are grateful for the stress relief fitness has provided us this week. Great to see your #OptOutside streak back in action 😉

  3. Wow, you schools start late! I feel like ours have been in session forever. Yes, getting back into the school routine is hard.
You should have listed “dancing in heels” as one of your workouts on Friday, ha ha. I think my foot would explode if I tried to wear heels again, ever.
Sounds like your cranky hip is better! You had some nice runs.

    • We always start after Labor Day – I like that it is a short week…helps for easing back into things.

I think you’re right I should have claimed the dancing as my workout 😉 Yes – finally starting to feel some relief in my hip!

  4. I thought you were working from home–did I miss something? Yes, the roads have been ridiculous lately. Where did all these people come from, lol?

Looks like you got some nice runs in this week!

  5. You had a nice week of workouts, Michelle!

Getting back into the routine when school starts in the fall is always a challenge, but if you’re like me, once the busyness of the first few days settles, it’s nice to be in a routine.

  6. I’m envious of your after-Labor Day start of school. That’s the way it “should” be. We’re already a month into the school year here. Ugh. Great job on all the workouts this week!

  7. whenever I put on a pair of heels, my feet are like “uh nope”. Thankfully, it is not too often these days! Getting back a new schedule always takes a few weeks. Looks like you got some good runs in this week

  8. The back-to-school traffic this week was just brutal. I always forget how peaceful my morning drive to OTF is during the summer.

Good luck with the new schedule – hopefully everything will fall in place within the next week or so.

    • Seriously – as Wendy said – where did all of these people come from?! I’ve got to adjust when I leave for the office in the morning, but it doesn’t help that part of the T is under construction.

  9. Dancing in heels? Eeps! You got some good work in though. I was sad about Eliza and wanted to run her miles but then got overwhelmed by all the stuff around the Queen’s passing, dealing with slightly surprising grief and also logistics (do we run parkrun (yes, and people liked that we did; we did it carefully), when is the day of mourning as I needed to tell non-UK clients).

  10. Re-entry to school was tough this year. I definitely struggled to adjust. I hope you find your groove soon.
