Happy Friday! It’s time for another edition of Fit Five Friday, – and since it’s the last Friday of the month, I’m linking up with Marcia to share a couple of Runfessions. So let’s dive in!
Some June Runfessions
I runfess that I’m wavering a bit on my fall race plans. Back in February, I highlighted some races I wanted to run this year – that list includes the Philadelphia Distance Run – a September half marathon. Back in February the humidity that is often still hanging around in September seemed like a distant memory. Well now that things are starting to heat up, the thought of a steamy September half is giving me pause.
I runfess that I will definitely be waiting a while before registering – let’s see how a couple of those 10-mile long runs (in July!) go first. I’m also looking for some late fall options.
I runfess that I’m reaching the end of my rope with my Garmin Venu Sq. A couple of weeks ago in mid-run, I looked down at my watch to see a blue triangle – the watch had crashed, despite having a fully charged battery. I stopped and fought to get it to reset but my run was gone. I wrote it off as a fluke…until it happened again…and again. The watch isn’t even a year old – the Apple watch is starting to look really good to me.
Any runfessions to share? Do you have your fall races set yet?

Ugh, that Garmin issue would be so frustrating! As you know, I don’t wear my Garmin for every run. I’m usually “running long” with Barb, so I’d have her stats as a back-up if mine would check-out. But still. Anyways, I only have one 13.1 on my Fall roster at the moment (IMT Des Moines, mid-October); I’d like to add another, but haven’t planned that far ahead.
At this point, I’m thinking I need to just ditch the watch for a while.
I’ve had issues with my Garmin lately as well as my old Apple Watch. It may be time to go shopping. That new Apple Watch sure looks tempting!
Yes – it really does!
Yikes on the watch! That’s so wrong to be so glitchy so soon. Knock wood, my old Garmin Fenix still behaves well, other than saying rude things to me on the track this morning!
Other than ZOOMA Amelia Island in October, I’ve got nothing. I suppose I’ll have to train at some point. Ugh.
Amelia Island should be a fun one! Thanks for the reminder I haven’t done a ZOOMA race in years.
so, I lasted about 2 weeks w the Venu and then sold it. I kept hitting the start or stop button by accident. I do much better w a non touch screen. I love my Garmin Fenix. The last one lasted 4 years so good investment. Those summer long runs are brutal. I was just realizing that I am in the same boat w the October 2 half in Maine. That one is close to you maybe you will join us. Yes, that would still mean long runs in August
Oh yes, the touch screen is a whole other issue!
Ah, you will be close, but I’ll be at parents’ weekend for that half. Hopefully, we’ll get a chance to meet up soon!
I do have my fall races set – A half in Sept, Oct and November and some others in the mix. I hope I will stay injury-free. This will keep me running this summer and not skipping long runs.
I hope you do stay injury-free to.
I’d love to meet-up again. My RI friend wants me to do Surftown 5k on Sept 11.
I only use my Garmin for racing so it doesn’t get a lot of use. For everyday running, I use my Apple watch and I love it for things besides running
I knew that you’d have your fall all mapped out 😉 I think Surftown is the week before the Philly race – is that your September half?
I love the Philly Distance Run but it’s hard to train in the hot summer for sure!
I’m training for Chicago and NYC marathon and a few halfs. You know – the usual 😉
The usual LOL 😉
Team Apple Watch. Except for the annoying lack of run tracking with Peloton but I think that’s bad with both. I’m thrilled I made the move, but never really liked the Garmin
I feel you on September. As much as I like the idea of the Cape half, it’s too risky weather wise.
Let me know where you l and on a late fall half. You might have company 😀
Cari recently posted…Celebrating and running
I remember you telling me how much you like your Apple watch! I may need to pick your brain some more on this.
And yes let’s put our heads together on late fall options – it would be great to see you!
Oh no on your Garmin! At least my problems with mine are random & not too often.
I’m with you on those long, steamy runs in Summer. If I do a late Fall half, I need to start beginning to ramp up in August. Ugh!
True – there’s no way around the summer heat, but at least with a late fall race the mileage in August is a bit more manageable. At least that’s what I keep telling myself 😉
Oh, that’s frustrating about the Garmin! i wonder if they would do anything to compensate you if you contacted them. It’s way too early for the watch to crash like that.
Yeah, most of our full and half marathons are in the winter here, because of the heat. It would be nice if you could train in the heat and then run a half in cooler temps- but September seems pretty iffy!
I agree it is way too early for all the issues with this watch. It may be worth a shot to contact Garmin.
summer training is tough for those of us who live through heat and humidity. I usually curse myself a few times for signing up for fall races! And now I’ve got one late summer (27/8) which, to be fair is in Norway and near the coast so it won’t be too bad. And of course Chicago in October… which as we all know the weather can go about 20 different directions there in the fall 😀
can you contact Garmin about your problems? because this doesn’t sound normal at all. I would be so annoyed!
Chicago can be all over the place! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you that you get a day as I had – I actually wore gloves at the start!
I’m going to contact Garmin and see what they say – this has been so frustrating 🙁
I have the 235 and love it! So far no problems. And crossing my fingers I don’t have any at all. So far my only race is my 50k. I haven’t registered for it yet but am training for it. Or maybe I still still training to start training for it? 🙂
When is your 50K?
I have registered for ZOOMA Amelia Island, but that’s about it. I don’t know if I will travel to many places to race this year.
I hope you find a new watch situation that works better.
