It’s the last Friday of the month so for this week’s Fit Five Friday, I’m linking up with Marcia to share a couple of Runfessions. So let’s dive in!
A Couple of Runfessions for April
No Race FOMO
When I made the decision recently to drop down from the half marathon distance to the 5-mile option for my May race I thought for sure that I would feel major race FOMO…but surprisingly, I runfess that I don’t. Honestly, I just feel like I have so much on my plate right now and I’m enjoying running as a pure escape without the pressure of “training”.
Struggling to fit it all in
Now that I’ve shifted to running 4 days/week, I runfess that I’ve been feeling squeezed for time to fit in all of my workouts. My time on my Peloton bike is definitely down and I bikefess that I miss it!
Do you have any runfessions to share?

The fact that you have zero FOMO confirms you made the right decision. When the Air Force Marathon went virtual last year, I switched to the 10K, and my FOMO was obsolete, too. I wanted to do another marathon, but I was struggling through some of the long runs, so it was more of a relief than a disappointment when the race dynamics changed.I agree, sometimes it feels fabulous to just enjoy running without the burden of training 🙂
So true about the lack of FOMO!
I runfess that while it’s fun to be racing again, I’m looking forward to some downtime and running just because…
Wendy recently posted…April Shower Runfessions
I so get that!
Racing is racing. A 5 miler is a perfect distance.
And yes.. If you work full time how is it possible to run and workout? My bike is very lonely.
Yes! 5 miles is a good distance.
It is hard to fit it all in, isn’t it?!
I can relate to your no FOMO sentiment. I just don’t have the urge to race AT ALL. I love running what I want when I want. I need to set boundaries at work because these past few weeks have consumed me.
I hope things quiet down for you soon!
I think the lack of FOMO is further confirmation that you made the right decision.
It is hard to fit everything in! That meme describes my work like every day!
I’m always amazed by how much you fit in with your work schedule!
Yes, It’s really hard to fit it all in. If I’m doing my runs and my strength workouts, when am I supposed to do yoga? It always seems like I’m neglecting something.
Sounds like you made a good decision to do the 5 mile instead of the half- running should take stress away from your life, not add it. Besides, as Darlene said, racing is racing! A five mile race will still be fun.
I’ve actually run the 5 miler before – it’s a great course and such a fun race. I’m glad they had options!
Sounds like you made the right choice for you re the May race. I was also realizing that my Peloton bike time is way less than it used to be. My focus has been more on running and I am trying not to over do the cardio, It can be hard to fit it all in!
Given your race schedule lately, it makes sense to not want to overdo the cardio.
The five mile race will be really fun! Why did you switch to 4 days/week of running? Is that more or less than what you were doing before?
I originally moved up to 4 days from 3 as part of my half training. Not so necessary now.
Even without juggling all you do, I can find it hard to squeeze in 4 runs. I thought I would this week but it didn’t happen. Just remember it is supposed to be fun most of the time anyway!
I rarely have FOMO. I choose carefully & I’m usually good with what I choose.
It is supposed to be fun – I always say that when the things that are supposed to de-stress, add stress it’s time to change things up.
There is never enough time, right? I am also struggling with my bike time. I can do it after work but sometimes just don’t want to or am exhausted. I guess I can make it fit with 2-3 times a week?
Sometimes something has to give, right?
i think it’s so great that you did not have FOMO with regards to dropping your distance. Sometimes it’s really ok to change when you know something would not be ideal! I felt like I might have had FOMO when we went to Berlin and also when Ron did a 10KM race last week but I also felt just fine about not participating. In the end we need to have our body AND mind in balance when it comes to training and running races! And sometimes, you just want to run for the therapeutic benefits!
With work I’m also struggling a bit fitting everything in. It will happen soon though. And I think you’ll get that rhythm again soon too.
Such a good point about needing to have your mind and body in balance. There will always be other races.
No FOMO means there is no problem. I’m glad you have that sign that you made the right call.
Thanks Jenn 🙂
Totally understand the decision to drop down to the shorter race distance, especially with how much you have going on right now. Running should be fun so no need to stress about a race distance that we are paying to run, lol.
lol – great point 😉
It is a struggle to fit it all in. I haven’t had time to ride my bike in a while because work keeps getting in the way. If only I could retire so I could do all the things. 😉
Retirement sounds like fun! 🙂
