After dealing with frigid temps and an ice storm last week, this week we had a “heatwave” as the thermometer showed temps in the 50s! Of course this morning we woke up to snow falling once again. Honestly, Mother Nature just pick a lane, LOL.
My hip flexor got a little cranky this week, so I dialed back on the running, and even took a full rest day. Here’s a quick look at how things played out.
Week 6 – Weather Whiplash in Full Effect
Monday — Flash 15 full-body strength, Shadow Boxing, Core & Stretch
Tuesday — Peloton Ride, Core & Stretch
Wednesday — 3.1-mile run & Stretch. The weather was just picture perfect, and with a very full schedule of Zoom calls, this midday run was just what I needed!
Thursday –– Rest day. I was surprised to wake up feeling sore all over – my right hip flexor was especially unhappy. So rest day it was.
Friday –– 1.3-mile walk & Yoga. While I had planned to do my Thursday run, the flexor gave me pause.
Saturday — 4.1-mile run, Core & Stretch
Sunday — On the plan, Peloton Ride, Stretch…and shoveling!
While Saturday’s hilly route definitely challenged my flexor, all is quiet today. Hopefully, things will stay that way as I’d like to start adding in a 4th run day in the upcoming week. I’m also looking forward to diving into Marcia’s Let’s Run Toward Spring Challenge, which starts on Monday.

Tell me about your week. Is anyone else dealing with weather whiplash?

I agree…Momma N needs to pick a lane (and stay there). I hope your hip flexor is all better and there’s not something more serious in the mix. That’s such a tricky spot (been there in recent months). I’m doing Marcia’s challenge, too 🙂
She really is all over the place with the weather – would you believe we’ll be back up in the 60s again later this week?!? Sigh…
I’m just tired of the ice and the bitter cold. We have had sunshine though and that makes a big difference in how I’m feeling. I’m not ready to add that 4th day of running back in–the pool running has worked out well for now. Once the weather gets better, I’ll do it!
The ice really has been the worse of it! It’s just not worth the risk to run outdoors, but on the other hand, I just loathe running on the mill. How much longer until Spring?
I’m so bummed I was stuck at my computer all day Friday – it was in the upper 60s here! Sorry your hip flared up, but glad it’s feeling better today. Fingers crossed it stays quiet!
Thanks Coco – I got a little lazy on my stretching and time with the massage gun and I think the hip flexor is reminding me that I can’t let that happen.
It was nice to have a few warmer days thrown in this week. WE are back to winter today! Smoetimes I cannot figure out what aggravates the hips or lower back it just happens. We have to just keep on doing what we do! Have a great week ahead
Hips and the lower back are such quirky spots – it is hard to know what sets them off. I’m happy that things seem to have quieted down quickly.
Oh yes, I know that hip flexor! It sounds like taking an extra rest day may have solved the problem. We were in the 50s too this week- except that was our “cold” day where we all bundled up, ha ha.
Ha I guess “cold” is all relative 😉 Thankfully the extra rest seems to have helped – fingers crossed!
We didn’t hit the 50s but yes, the weather has been very changeable lately. We went from 40 to 0 this week and I am over it. There’s supposed to be a 50 for us this week and I will gladly take it! Hope your new job is going well!
We’re supposed to see 60 this week – I’m so over the temperature rollercoaster too.
The new job is going really well so far – thanks for asking 🙂
Wow, jealous of those warm temps! I had very sore hip flexors at the end of Baton Rouge, have had to really focus on stretching them lately.
Your weather really was a mix! Great job getting it all done!
Thanks Jessie! I definitely slacked on the stretching lately and paid for it a bit this week. Won’t make that mistake again!
Weather whiplash to your south as well.
Glad the hip flexor responded well to the day off. Sometimes they’re just necessary

The rest day was key – also need to get back to some of my favorite Peloton stretch classes for hips.
Sorry to hear that your hip flexor was a little angry this week but glad that it’s feeling better now.
The weather was definitely super wacky this week – especially with the change between Saturday and Sunday!
Thanks Kim – I’m hoping this will be a passing thing.
I’m really over this weather! I can’t believe after yesterday’s snow we’re going back up to 60 this week!
The weather has been truly insane lately. I definitely embrace those warmer weather days! My memories from 5 years ago are for a blizzard, so hey, we don’t have that. 🙂
Hopefully the flexors will cooperate with the fourth run!
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the 4th day will be possible, but I’m definitely going to pay attention to what my body will tolerate.
The sunshine in your pictures looks great! The temps are forecast to hit 51 here on Weds, and then cool down enough to be rainy/slushy when I am scheduled to get outside and run. Oh joy! I hope adding in the 4th day of running works out well for you.

Sounds like we’re dealing with similar weather. I admit I’ve been juggling my runs to chase the milder temps – we’ll see how this week plays out.
It’s that weird time where she hasn’t decided if it’s still winter or spring already. The day temperatures here have been a steady 45 degrees last week and are forecasted to stay that way. While the temperatures remain the same, the weather doesn’t. It has changed from sun to heavy rain to strong wind, sometimes multiple times the same day.
