It’s that time again for a little catch-up over coffee with Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date. And, of course, it’s Friday so that means another Fit Five Friday link-up! So grab a mug of your fave hot beverage and let’s chat.
November Coffee Talk
Over coffee, I would share the somber news that my mother-in-law passed away last week. Her health had been in decline since her stroke six years ago, so on many levels, her passing brings some peace. The funeral is this weekend so we’ll be heading to upstate New York later today.
On a much lighter note, over coffee, I would tell you that my husband and I visited my son at college last weekend for Parents’ Weekend. It was so good to see him and we had a great time! And now I count down the days until he’s home for Thanksgiving 😉
And speaking of Thanksgiving, over coffee I would ask if you are as annoyed as I am by how this holiday gets short-changed? I have already spied some Christmas decorations on houses during my runs and don’t even get me started on the retailers!
Over coffee, I would tell you that I’m excited about a potential new career opportunity on the horizon. I’m also crazy nervous about all this new position might entail. Keeping my fingers crossed that I can share more about the opportunity soon.
What would you tell me over coffee? Have you seen Christmas lights and decorations out yet?

That’s so exciting about your job opportunity! I’m just hanging on until i can retire, lol.
There’s actually been a lit up Christmas tree in the backyard along the bike path for about a month. Ridiculous, if you ask me, lol.
I’m so sorry about the loss of your MIL.
Thanks Wendy.
That’s just crazy about the lit tree – just too early!
Sorry to hear about the loss of your Mother-in-law. Hugs to all of you <3 I snuck into the dollar store to grab a few things Halloween afternoon…and they were busily putting up all the Christmas displays and merchandise. Yeah, what about Thanksgiving??? It does get short-changed ;-(
Thanks for the hugs Kim 🙂
Sorry to hear about your MIL. Very sad. I watched the Halloween dept at Target fade away well before Halloween and be replaced by all things Christmas. There’s a house in our neighborhood that had holiday lights professionally installed a few weeks ago and they’ve had them it ever since.
Exciting about the new job prospect! Keep us posted!
Thanks Marcia.
Professionally installed lights?! Wow.
That’s so exciting about the possible new job. Can’t wait to hear.
Sorry about your MIL. Where in NYS? Mine is 96. Healthy but not very happy.
I saw Christmas stuff out in the store before Halloween.
My friend who works for Target says they ran out of Halloween stuff early, and so had to put out the Xmas stuff to avoid the “empty shelves” look.
96? That’s awesome!
I’m sorry to hear about your MIL. No matter the circumstances, it’s still hard.
I have not seen any holiday decorations yet, but that’s because I have been out since last weekend. I did notice all the Christmas ads on TV on November 1. I’m with you — #respectthebird
Oh, a new career prospect is exciting! Can’t wait until you can tell us more.
Thanksgiving is such a wonderful holiday – it makes me a little crazy that it seems to always get short-changed.
My condolences to you and your husband on your MIL.
Exciting about your new opportunity! Can’t wait to hear more!
Thank you, Erica.
That is exciting about a new job opportunity for you! It is exciting to have all the kids home for Thanksgiving and I can’t wait either. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and looks like we are having a large one this year so I am looking forward to planning that. Sorry about your MIL xoxo
Thanks Deborah.
Fun that you’re hosting! We always host Christmas so my brother’s got turkey duty 🙂
Condolences to you and your husband- that can be very hard.
So glad you got to see your son! I’m also counting down the days till Thanksgiving. I love seeing Christmas-y stuff in the stores, but I don’t put up any in my house until after Thanksgiving. i love both holidays and don’t want to gyp Thanksgiving one bit!
Good luck with the new job opportunity- hope everything works out.
Thanks so much Jenny!
I am sorry about your MIL, hugs to you & your husband & your family. My mom has been in a steady health decline. She’s still doing fairly well considering her age, but her quality of life is not really all that great. Sometimes a passing truly is a blessing.
Excited to heat about your new job opportunity!
Since we are Jewish, and we don’t celebrate Christmas . . .
Thank you Judy – it is so hard when the quality of life declines.
Fingers, toes crossed on the new job opportunity. So sorry to hear about your MIL’s passing. Hope services go as well as possible
Thank you Cari I appreciate it!
I missed this blog post so just read about your mother-in-law. so sorry to hear about her passing. I hope that the services were able to provide a bit of peace this weekend.
The stores here couldn’t wait to put out all the Christmas stuff on November 1. It was kind of sad.
Thanks Kim.
Maybe it’s just me but it seemed like the retailers were in an extra rush with the Christmas stuff this year!
