For as much as I usually like to set monthly goals to help keep myself accountable and focused, I somehow never got around to setting any for the month of August. Say what?!
Somehow, despite my rather lackluster interest in running lately, I did exceed to hit my baseline goal of 50 miles/month. But on the whole, August was very much a “do what you feel like” kinda month.
For September, I’m climbing back on the goals bandwagon, but first here’s a quick run down on the week that was….
Monday — Yoga. Chelsea is quickly becoming one of my favorite yoga instructors.
Tuesday — 3-mile power walk and core work.
Wednesday — 2.5 miles and strength training.
Thursday — 3-mile power walk and core work.
Friday — 1.6 miles and strength training. Robin’s upper body classes are no joke – my arms were jello when this one was done.
Saturday — 3.1 miles and core work. The weather was ideal – now if there was just a way to bottle it for the rest of the year!
Sunday — 2.5-miles power walk, core work, and PT exercises.
On the whole, it was a pretty low-key week. I’ve been enjoying the combination of short runs followed by strength training and can definitely see that trend continuing – especially while my desire to run long remains low.

My staycation ends today and school for my youngest son starts this week, so I’m going to work on planning out my workouts again. These goals should help to give me a little structure.
Do you map out your workouts when you’re not training for a race? Did you set any goals for September?
I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
Chelsea is also my favorite Peloton yoga instructor. I love her vibe and she doesn’t make me feel bad when I cannot do all the things. Summer is supposed to be about moving the way you want. I have no doubt you will jump right back into running this fall
That’s a great way to describe Chelsea’s style! I really can’t wait for Fall weather to make a permanent appearance!
Great week of workouts! Totally understand the lack of wanting to run long – I feel the same way.
I find that planning my workouts on Sundays for the week ahead makes my life a lot easier. Hopefully it will have the same effect for you. Good luck with everything this week!
Smart idea to plan out your workouts on Sundays – I’m going to give that a try. Thanks Kim!
I think your shorter runs/strength work is a win-win. As you know, there’s no sense (or need) to force “longer” runs if there aren’t any long-distance races on the calendar. I’m sure that mojo will return when the time is right 🙂
Thanks Kim 🙂
Your goals for September look reasonable to me!
I don’t map out my workouts but I do seem to make it all happen–I try to get in 4 runs, 1 crossfit, and 1 strength sesh per week. I do need to make yoga happen, tho.
You always seem to have a good mix of workouts! I’ve been trying to make sure I get at least one session of yoga each week – really seems to help how my right hip feels.
The shorter runs + strength sounds perfect to me. It can feel weird to detach from the distance mentality but it’s all good! Hope your boys have a happy and safe school year!
True it does feel a little odd to detach from the distance mindset – it’s all about going with the ebbs and flows, right?
I don’t usually set goals, but did for September to give some structure to my life. I have gotten hooked on the 3 mile runs + strength combo too, but now the morning darkness is making me mix things up again — I was running first, but now I’m doing strength first until it’s nearly light, but then I don’t like to jump in the shower while I’m still overheated, so I’m tacking on a short yoga class when I get back.
Is your youngest ^going^ to school? I know the case loads are so much lower up there now. .
I haven’t tried doing the strength work first, but the shortage of morning light is probably going to change that soon.
We’ve been lucky up here that the case loads have been relatively low. Hopefully, it will stay that way so the kids can stay in the classrooms.
Love this! I have been watching you crush it on IG and I am so proud of all your hard work.
I am starting to look at September goals, now that we are 1/3 of the way finished with the month. But really, who’s counting?
Aww, thanks so much, Jenn!
Never too late to set some goals, right?!
Those are some great and doable goals! My main one for September is to run 200km. MY highest ever is 177 – but looking to exceed that just to have a goal to work towards. Without races, I’m starting to find it difficult to stay motivated and training. So I think this will do the trick for me.
