Coffee Time 2020

Happy New Year!

I hope 2020 is starting off right for you! I’m joining Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date, so grab a mug of your fave hot beverage and let’s chat a little.

Ultimate Coffee Date – January 2020

Over coffee, I would tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed the holidays! The time off from work was so needed and I fully embraced having everyone home under one roof. We cooked a lot, caught some movies (Jumanji & Star Wars), saw The Nutcracker, had some cutthroat games of Risk and Monopoly, spent time with extended family, and generally just enjoyed hanging out.

Over coffee, I would tell you that returning to work was crazy hard – like “I want no part of this” hard.

Some changes in career plans may be in order….

Over coffee, I would tell you that I always try to use the downtime to reflect and start to set some goals for the new year. And, as part of this process, I pick one word as the theme for my year across all areas of my life  – and this year my word is Curate. It feels like a perfect extension from last year’s word, Intentional.

I love that my husband surprised me with a custom Motivation Wrap!

What would you tell me over coffee? Did you enjoy the holidays? Do you pick one word for the year?

  1. I agree, going back to work after the time off was sooo hard! And next week will be the first full week back at work so I’m sure that will seem long too. I love curate, great word!

  2. Oh no sorry to hear about work being a downer – but it’s great to know you had a wonderful time with your family during the holidays. Love your 2020 theme of Curate!

  3. My holidays were super underwhelming. I didn’t get out much and the boys had to kind of fend for themselves. I am super hopeful to be able to see the new Star Wars movie soon, but I can’t sit in a movie theater very long right now 🙁

  4. Isn’t just so nice when everyone is home for a short time? Glad to read that you had such a great holiday season. I really like curate!

  5. I kinda love that your husband surprised you with that bracelet! Mine wouldn’t have a clue about that–much less ordering me a bracelet. I did get coffee from him, tho…

    Love the word!

  6. I really love your word for the year!

  7. Ooh, curate is quite an interesting word. Almost as intriguing as your caption on that work meme. 😉 I think I worked more these past two weeks than I have in ages, but it probably just feels that way because I was squeezing in a few hours of work around all the other holiday/family things. My son plays a brutal game of Risk!

    • Yeah if I’m true to my word this year than some career changes may be in order 🙂 You did seem to be working a lot! I hope things are slowing down for you a little.

  8. Curate is a very unique word, and such a great choice! I haven’t really thought of a specific word for 2020 yet. Things that make you go “Hmmmmm.” Nice bracelet from the hubby! We had three fun games of Clue with the older daughter (and boyfriend) after we got back to Iowa…so fun!!

  9. I’m glad you had a great time over the holidays! I still need to watch Jumanji! I like the word you picked for this year!

  10. I loved having everyone together for the holidays, but work for me was nuts right through them. Nothing like getting texts asking for files on Chiristmas Eve. Ugh. That is a great word for the year!

  11. I’d love to hear more about why you chose Curate as your word for 2020 — that’s such an interesting choice.

That’s such a sweet gift from your husband. Mine wouldn’t even know what they are, even though I wear them!

I’m sorry that work has started out rough for 2020, but glad that you had an awesome holiday.

    • I’ve been thinking I may do a separate post on my word choice. My husband definitely surprised me with the custom wrap – clearly he was paying closer attention than I give him credit for!

  12. Love your word. I have one. Not as interesting.

I didn’t take any time off from work. But I did go to quite a few parties. Hope to stop over eating soon.

Especially since I am not running much. Foot pain continues and the end is not obvious. I’m not a patient person. Wish me luck.

    • I definitely did some overindulging – hopefully returning to a routine will help to curb that!

I’m sorry your foot pain continues. I’m not patient either so I know how frustrating this all can be. Hoping you get some answers and relief soon!

  13. The holidays were pretty hectic here, so I was actually relieved when they were over! It sounds like you had a very nice one and I love that you had some fun games of Monopoly. Curate is a great word of the year!!

  14. I’m glad you had such a good holiday! It is great to have together time! I need to work on having something like this for myself! I also found it really hard to go back to work!! Why is that??

I haven’t come up with a word or any goals. I’m kind of just “being” at the moment. So maybe my word is “Be”. I have had such a struggle the last several months, I feel like I don’t want the added pressure on myself right now.

    • I love the idea of “Be” as your word for the year! I can certainly understand not wanting to add any pressure – there’s no need and certainly no rule that says you need to set goals now, just because it’s the beginning of the year. Sometimes I find “mini” goals set throughout the year work much better for me.
