October Runfessions

So here we are once again in the final few days of the month – and what a month it’s been! Marcia has opened the runfessional to give us all a chance to cleanse our souls (or is that soles?) before the new month begins, and I’ve got a few things to share, so let’s get started, shall we?

October Runfessions

Following the marathon, my run coach urged me to take a week off from running. At first, I balked at the idea, however, taking those days off proved to be much easier than I thought – I runfess that I didn’t miss running!

Last month I runfessed grand plans to run a November half marathon so all the Chicago mileage I built up didn’t go to “waste”. Well, I runfess I’m kinda over it. Any of the local halfs I was considering are coming up in the next couple of weeks and, truth be told, I’m just not interested in running long – so now I’m eyeing 10Ks.

If you had talked to shortly after crossing the Chicago finish line, I was pretty clear that 26.2 miles was ridiculously far and that it was one and done for me. Well, it’s amazing what a difference a few days make – I runfess that I’ve started thinking about the possibility of running another one.

OK – your turn….what are you runfessing this month?

  1. Haha! Oh yes. I was NEVER running another marathon after my first. We all know how that turned out. Glad you ended up enjoying your week off of running. Gotta love those no-guilt days!

  2. It is definitely nice to have some time off after the marathon to let the body recover! I have to check your Chicago recap, I’m so far behind but so happy for you! And you can’t just do one marathon right? 😉

  3. LOL, that always happens with a marathon. You swear them off and then something in the back of your head tries to pull you back in 🙂

My half in November is pretty hilly so I’m just planning on run/walking it. Right now my desire to workout (OTF, spinning) is there, but my desire to run is kinda low.

  4. Hah! I’m glad you took that recovery week. You deserve it. LOL at contemplating another marathon. You’ve been bitten by that bug! There are so many great ones to choose from.

  5. Haha! I know that feeling well! BTW, I ran my best half marathon 6 weeks after Chicago, with only one 10 mile run during that entire time. That fitness stayed with me! Don’t count it out.

  6. I was glad to see that you are taking a proper recovery from the marathon. Seems like lots of people jump right back in. Your body needs a rest for sure

  7. Oh lovely – at least you are considering running again, and maybe another mara (I considered my first one as a kind of practice one then the next one went better as I did the things I didn’t do the time before!). I get really sad when people run one mara then never run again. I’m glad you have your eye on something else maybe one day …

    • On taking on another marathon I feel like I would know a bit more about what I’m doing vs. the first where everything is just, and sometimes overwhelming. Know what I mean?

      • Yes. Just knowing how to fuel yourself takes masses off stress off the second one. Plus you know you CAN run each longer distance in training, which really helps. it’s not so much of an emotional rollercoaster. I mean, my second one, the race wasn’t great in the end but that wasn’t my fault, and the training went well.
