Run to Remember Training Week 1

Happy Sunday!

This past week was a hectic one for sure, with the kids returning to school and lacrosse practice after spring break and a big work event to prep for. I made it to today and just exhaled!

With just a couple of months until the Run to Remember Half, it was also time to start to focus on a training plan. Here’s how the week went down….

Boston’s Run to Remember Training Week 1

Monday — Rest

Tuesday — 3-mile run. I held off until the afternoon to head out, and while it was still pretty cold, it was a beautiful day!

Celebrating a beautiful day!

Wednesday — Strength workout (core & legs)

Thursday — I woke up with a killer headache. I kept hoping it would settle down, but I felt pretty crappy all day so I pushed the run off to Friday.

Friday — 3-miles. Finally, an early morning run that was not bitter cold!

Saturday — 5 miles logged (a mix of walking & running along the course) while playing race director for a charity run. We had a great turnout for this inaugural event. I was up by 3:30 a.m. and was on site by 4:45 – then it was nonstop until around 1 p.m. A fun day, but boy was I tired when I got home!

Sunday — My legs were so not feeling this morning’s run but I got 4 miles done. I was so happy I had scheduled an acupuncture appointment for this afternoon – just what my legs needed.

Total Miles: 15

I’m looking forward to a quieter week on both the work and home front…and dare I say it, some spring temps?

I’m joining Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down link-up.

Tell me something about your week? Have you ever had the chance to play race director?

  1. You certainly had a busy week! I think it’s so cool that you were able to be a race director for Saturday’s race. I’m glad that you had a good turnout!

  2. It is fun to be on the other side of a race production sometimes and see all that goes into one. Hope you have a quieter week all around!

    • I’ve served as a race director on a few occasions and I always say it makes me appreciate all that goes into the races I run so much more.

  3. Oooh! I have never had acupuncture. Do you receive it as recovery for your legs after running? Kind of like a massage? Sounds interesting. I can imagine being an RD would be an exhausting job. So grateful for all those TDs out there who make the races happen for us runners!

    • I absolutely love acupuncture! I’ve used it to help treat injuries in the past and now I’ve made it part of my maintenance/recovery plan.

  4. Sounds like a solid week for you! I didn’t have acupuncture but I did have my massage! I kinda love all this alternative recovery stuff! Feeling so much better…

  5. You did have a busy week! Although I have never been the actual race director, I have volunteered for several local races. Our church sponsored a race for several years, and I was on the planning committee for all of the details for that. It’s a lot of work, but very rewarding 😉 Thanks for linking with us, Michelle!

  6. You ended up with a solid week. I love those tights. Yay for spring lacrosse. We only get to watch games on tv now.

  7. That does sound like a busy week! How cool that you got to be a race director. I’d love to hear more about that experience.

    • The RD experience was totally stressful, but a lot of fun at the same time – if that makes sense. It was cool to see the runners really enjoying the race!

  8. Spring temps would be nice.

You did have a busy week. I actually am home all week.

Looking forward to getting things done that have been neglected.

  9. yay for week 1 !! bummer about the headache though that pushed your run out a day. do you know what it was related to? or just one of those out of the blue things?

how fun you were race director for the charity run! that must be hard though!

    • Honestly, I think the headache was purely stress-induced…juggling way too many things!! So glad it was just a one-day thing and it didn’t linger.

The RD work was exhausting but such fun! I’ll be at it again for another race in June 🙂

  10. I am excited that you will be running Run to Remember! It is a great race!

Headaches suck! I rarely get them but when I do, it is mostly because I am hungry or need more sleep. Or caffeine. 🙂 I’ve taken ibuprofen for them and then it goes away.

  11. I haven’t been a race director yet, but I have been working my way through all sorts of volunteer jobs at races in the past few years. I was asked to be a race director on a regular basis, but I felt like it would take up more of my time than I’d like it to right now. Maybe in a few years!

  12. Great job!

I’ve never gotten to play RD, but I’ve volunteered at a bunch of events. What did you think of the experience?

Glad you are starting to feel spring temperatures.

  13. Well done on your race directorship! I always forget how much work goes into organising and running a race event!

  14. Your week sounds a bit like mine in the hectic department! That is a great word to describe things other than BUSY!
Sounds like you are on a great start with your training!
Hope spring temps come your way, and also stay for a bit!
Race director sounds like a LOT of work! What was the most challenging part?

  15. Well done for picking up the RD job – that must have been super-tiring. All that being responsible and making sure everything was right and answering all the questions, right? A great week all told.
