Happy Friday!
Marcia has opened the runfessional and I’ve got a few things to share, so let’s get to it, shall we?
I runfess that long runs and I don’t seem to be on speaking terms. I haven’t run longer than 8 miles in what feels like forever, and double-digit runs are all but a distant memory. With the oppressive humidity rolling in I’m feeling very little motivation to change this any time soon.
With that in mind, I runfess that I’ll probably be remixing at RnR Chicago with the 5K/10K combo – and I’m perfectly fine with that.
I runfess that I can’t take this yo-yo injury situation where one week I feel great and the next I’m hobbled so I finally went to see my doctor so I could get a referral for PT.
I runfess that I’ve been spending a fair amount of time lately reading running shoe reviews. Ever since my massage therapist suggested I stop running in the new Mizuno Skys I’ve been wondering if my Zealots need to be re-thought as well. They’re getting up there in mileage so I need to either start scouring the internet for deals on this model of Zealots or consider a new shoe. I’m toying with returning to the Brooks Adrenalines. Of course, all my woes will be resolved with the “perfect” shoes, right? 😉
I runfess that with a wide open fall in front of me I’m struggling with going local vs. destination races. As a Rock’n’Blogger, I receive free race entries, so beyond Chicago, I’m leaning towards running RnR Philly again in September, and my husband J wants to consider San Antonio if he can make his schedule work. And, while I always enjoy a racecation, it certainly starts to put a dent in the wallet. On the other hand, there’s no shortage of races around here in the fall and there is a lot to be said for rolling out of your own bed on race morning. I’m watching entry fees rise so I’m gonna need to make some decisions soon (especially if travel is involved!). What’a runner to do?!
So tell me, have you found your “perfect shoe”? Local vs destination races?
I’m also joining Rachel and Lacey & Meranda for the Friday Five link-up!
I’m not much of a runner but I do like the idea of destination races because yayy for excuses to travel! 😛 I feel ya about the dents in the wallet though. :/
An excuse to travel is always good, right? 😉
I have not managed any longer runs lately either. I will be doing the 5K/10K at RnR too can’t wait to meet you

Same here! Chicago will be fun!
I am entertaining that same remix as my long run is MIA as well. It’ll be fun! I’m not sure I’ll be able to do any other RnRs this year. Sigh.

The lack of RnR options on the east coast is really making getting to more races challenging 🙁
It would be nice if new shoes could solve everything — it may be worth a try at this point! RnR Philly sounds fun. Too bad my Sep is full of work conferences.

For Chicago I was supposed to do the 5k/Half combo but I runfess that I’ll most likely drop down to the 5k/10k combo and I’m A-OK with that.
I selfishly want you to run RnR Philly because I’ll be there too! I was thinking about San Antonio as well, but it will come down to the airline/hotel costs.

I’ve been wearing Mizuno Wave Riders for over 10 years! I love them. I’m with you on running in the heat. 8 miles seems LONG!

Sorry about your injury. it is so hard as a runner to even admit that we are injured.
I am still looking for the perfect shoe but for now I am sticking to Nike Zoom Vomeros.
I love destination races but I can’t afford the ones that I want to do.
I definitely want to run in Philly.

I love to travel to a destination race about once every other year but generally prefer local (there’s a couple races in my town, takes me 10 min to get there which I love!).

I am in love with my New Balance running sneakers. Best ones I have ever had and I have tried a lot.

I’ve been in the Adrenalines for a few years…my feet need support (I have outrageously high arches). Have you ever tried the Mizuno Wave Inspires? They are my other shoe (a “sister” shoe to the Adrenaline, if you will) because of the arch support they give me.
This humidity is a b-word! I did 5 miles today, but mostly walked the last 2 miles because the humidity had my stomach churning. I like destination races, but they definitely do get pricey!

Seems like everyone’s struggling with this heat! Hope we all get a break soon!
I’m moving from Mizunos to Adrenalines. So far so good. They are way cooler looking than my Mizunos, so there’s that.
I’m still planning on the half at RnR. We’ll see how my long run goes.
Great to hear the Adrenalines are working for you! I have a feeling you’ll be able to power through the half.
Let me ask about your footwear situation. Why are you in the Sky (I think I know that answer) and the Zealots? Do you like one or the other any better? I ask because Mizuno have a notoriously high heel drop (usually 12 mm) but the Zealots are much lower (4 mm). I used to run in both but when I was running in the Zealots it was after I switched out of Mizuno completely.

I thought the Sky’s cushion would be a bonus but it was just not a good choice on so many levels. In the past, I’ve always run in a lower heel drop (Kinvaras use to be my go-to). I like the Zealots because I get the low drop with more cushion. What made you leave the Mizunos?
I mostly do local races or races that are near my parents place (so my kids can be with them). I’m actually enjoying my long runs but I’m also not training for anything.
It’s nice to have time off from training for something.
Hopefully working with a PT will help sort out your issues! I enjoy local races but I do enjoy traveling as well. We will be doing RNR Savannah, we’re doing the half marathon relay! When I did a bunch of RNR races last year, the travel got to be a bit much but I loved running in new places!
I hope to see you in Philly!

I would love to run Savannah at some point – that city is on my bucket list to visit! Are you definitely running RnR Philly? It would be great to see you!
Destination races definitely put a dent in the wallet! Yet except for the shorter distances, I never sleep in my own bed before one.
Of course new shoes can fix all our problems. If only! 🙂
Until a few weeks ago, it has been 8 MONTHS since I’d done a double digit run!

Glad to see I’m not alone on the lack of double-digit runs 😉
Don’t beat yourself up about those long runs. There was one summer where I couldn’t get past 6 miles!
For the most part I love my Mizunos. I have not been injured in them so I haven’t been seeking out other brands.
It’s good that you’ve found a shoe that works for you – makes such a difference!
Destination races are certainly pricey, but San Antonio is certainly appealing, especially if your husband can also make it work with his schedule. RnR San Antonio is on my bucket list, so if you make it there this year I’ll have to live vicariously through you.

I’ve wanted to visit San Antonio for a while so I’m keeping my fingers crossed my husband can make this work.
