And just like that, another month is coming to a close! So it’s time for a quick wrap-up of how things shook out in April.
Running – There were 60.55 miles on the road and the mill. Following the recommendation of my massage therapist, I shelved my new Mizuno Skys and went back to running in the Saucony Zealots. I also added in the new Kinvara 9s (I use to run in Kinvaras all the time until Saucony messed with the design). So far so good!
Strength Work – Thanks to the Tricep dips, Push-ups, and Jump Squats challenge there was some focus on strength training this month. And, my plank streak continues to roll along (120 days and counting!)
Cross-Training – Just a little time was spent on the Arc Trainer, but my poor yoga mat was often neglected. Basically, as my schedule grew more hectic during the month, non-running workouts took a backseat.
May Goals
With the Run to Remember Half at the end of the month, there will obviously be a big focus on building mileage. If I complete all of the runs on my training plan, then I should hit around 85 miles.
And, with the increase in mileage, I know I have to keep up the self-care (rolling, massage) and the PT exercises that seem to help keep the piriformis happy and quite.
I also know that I do better if I don’t “just run” so weekly yoga sessions and some time with the kettlebells will also be part of the plan.
Overall the goal for May is consistency!
I’m joining Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap.
And, with Erika, Marcia, and Patty for Tuesdays on the Run.
How was your April? What are you looking forward to in May?
Great job on the planking!! You’ve done a great job keeping the streak alive! My strength training has faltered a bit in recent weeks. I’ve been keeping up with Rachel’s challenge (until last week…OOPS), but any extra strength work got left out with all of my busy-ness. I need to get back in my usual routine…pronto.
I’ve kind of surprised myself with the streak LOL! 😉
Why oh why do they mess with the design of shoes?? It’s time for me to get a new pair of shorter distance shoes and I’m torn between a new Mizuno Model (Sayonara is no longer) and New Balance. With no “big” races on the horizon, I’m tempted to keep running low key for awhile longer.

The constant tweaking of shoe designs drives me nuts! Good luck deciding on your new shoe.
Consistency is the most important thing in anything you do! But it’s seriously hard fitting it all in. Here’s to a great May!

Exactly! Fitting it all in is definitely a challenge!
April definitely feels like it flew by! You had a really solid month. I have really missed yoga and barre so I’m looking forward to getting back in the studio this month. And yes to self-care!

Hopefully, now that your big race is done you’ll get a chance to hit the studio!
I am with you on the “just running” thing–I cannot say enough about cross-training and how much it has benefitted me. Who has time for an injury, right? You are doing great. Nice month.
Thanks Wendy!
I really need to put more effort into self care this month as well! Nice mileage this month for you

Thanks, Deborah!
I’m happy to hear the change of shoes worked for you. You had a great month and I know May will be even better as you continue training for your race. I’m guilty of letting things slip when I’m crunched for time. I wish we could save time in a bottle (remember the song?) to dispense as needed. LOL.
Would that be the best if we could dispense as needed?!? I feel like I’m always in need of extra time these days.
I may have missed this part, but what was wrong with the Mizunos you were wearing? Is the Sky a neutral shoe? I use to walk in sauconys for years and loved them so naturally thought they would make good running shoes for me but not so much. -m
Not long after I started running in the Sky I started having a lot of hamstring and piriformis issues. I’ve run in Mizunos in the past but something about this design didn’t agree with me.
I do dislike it when companies change their shoes. However, sometimes that change is much better than the previous version.
The Run to Remember race is a great one!

The change in shoe design makes me crazy – I’ve been known to horde a favorite style and may have to do that again!
I’m still switching back and forth between different Mizunos. I wish I had a crystal ball to know which shoes were right for me. Way to go on the strength training.

Wouldn’t it be great to really know the right shoe?!?
