It was another blur of a week, as evidenced by the fact that I have almost no pictures from the week. Despite the lack of documentation, I’m joining Holly & Tricia for the Weekly Wrap as I wrap-up week 7 of my “runner rebuild”.
Monday – Rest
Tuesday – 400-meter repeats.
Wednesday – Finally found my yoga mat again for a much-needed stretch.
Thursday – I had planned to run, but a clash of schedules turned this into an unplanned rest day.
Friday – Strength workout
Saturday – Does cleaning and Christmas prep count as cross-training?
Sunday – 5 more miles
All-in-all a pretty uneventful week. It’s been a l-o-n-g time since I attempted anything that resembled speedwork, but I thought I’d mix it up a little and test the waters as I get ready to start a training plan again.
While I’m still trying to figure out my racing schedule for 2018, I learned this week that the lottery gods were not kind to me and I’ll have to wait another year for a chance at Cherry Blossom 🙁 But, on the other hand, I got a great discount offer on a race I’ve wanted to do for a while so I jumped on it and registered for the Black Cat 10-Miler.
I’ve often mentioned how much I love the 10-mile distance and I’ve wanted to run this one for a while, but the timing has never worked. So with an early March race now set, it’s time for training. Once I get my son’s hockey schedule I may add a couple of races in February too, but Black Cat will be an early goal race – if I can run it well, it will set the stage for half marathons to come.
Have you registered for a 2018 race yet?
I have a few races on the schedule already for 2018 but nothing until April. Feels kind of weird. Nice work on the repeats! Speedwork is my favorite thing to do on a treadmill.
I think speedwork is the only time I don’t mind running on the mill. I like how it forces me to keep a consistent pace.
Bummer on Cherry Blossom, but Black Cat sounds like a neat option. That reminds me I need to get my March race lined up.

I had really hoped CB would work out – I really want to get a couple of 10 milers in this year. And, now we’ll have to look for another opportunity to meet up 🙂
Don’ t give up on the cherry blossom lots of people get in with bib transfers in February. You never know!

Ooooh sorry about CB10 but yay for the Black Cat! Yeah I can’t remember the last “quality” running workout I’ve done. I vote yes to holiday prep as XT!

I am really glad scheduling worked for Black Cat this year – it’s been on my radar for a while!
Girl I haven’t done speed work in months – its quite sad, lol. …And yes, holiday prepping totally counts as cross training. It’s a lot of work!
I also love the 10 mile distance, although I’ve only done 2 10-mile races. I wish there were more to choose from!

I wish we had more 10 milers here too! Unfortunately, it feels like this race distance is getting harder and harder to find.
I too love the 10 mile distance! My favorite 10 miler was moved from March back to April and I may just have to do it again this year.

I haven’t registered for any races for next year but have confirmed I’m running a half in May!
Cleaning and Christmas shopping totally count as cross training. I vacuumed and swept my whole house on the weekend and was exhausted by the end.

Ha ha…I’ve registered for like 5 or 6 2018 races already LOL I also love the 10-mile distance! And early March is a perfect time…not too close, but close enough to get the training underway. Have fun!

Having that Black Cat 10 miler on your calendar is a good incentive to get your training plan in order. Good for you. I am not a speedwork fan!
Cleaning absolutely counts!! I was planning on researching how many calories we burn cleaning and what that equates to for a workout. Lol. Good luck with the training!

I ran the Black Cat 10 Miler twice – great race! Loved that distance and it always seemed to work as a half marathon race prep for me too!

2018 is seemingly going to be the year of the half marathon for me. I’ve signed up for 6 so far and will probably end up doing 9 or 10 of them……I’m tired just thinking about it!
