Weekly Wrap – Rest & Recovery

After last weekend’s race, this week was all about rest and recovery.

Monday and Tuesday were all about rest.

Wednesdays are my usual strength day. Trainer Stacy was out of town so I was left on my own – lots of squats, lunges and abs.

The RC coaches wanted to give me as much down time as possible, so Thursday was yet another rest day. I spent some quality time with a lacrosse ball trying to work out some lingering knots.

By Friday, I was itching to run, and was happy to see 5 miles on the plan. Mid-40’s in the morning is perfect running weather in my book and everything about this run felt good!

The temps on Saturday were even cooler  – I actually had to dig out a pair of gloves for this run. A hilly 6.25 miles with J. Another good run!

Now the week ahead will be the start of upping the mileage to get ready for Vegas! Since I’ll be running the Remix Challenge (5K on the first night and half marathon on the 2nd), the RC coaches will have me running short runs on Fridays before my Saturday long runs.

Fridays are usually a rest day, but I think this will be good practice for the Remix. I’m also going to try to shift my runs to later in the day to try to get use to Vegas’ late race start times.

Do you shift the time of your runs to match a race?
Any advice for running back-to-back races?

As always, I’m joining Holly and Tricia once again for the #WeeklyWrap link-up. rp_WeeklyWrap-1-300x300.jpg

  1. How fun that you are running LV! I wish I was. Maybe next year?

  2. I know how good those great runs this week must have felt after a tough race! I probably would try a few later runs just so there are no surprises when you get to Vegas, although it would feel very weird to run late in the day. I’ve never doubled up on races of any distance. Thanks for linking, Michelle!

  3. Those chilly runs are good practice for Vegas. Don’t forget to pack gloves. It was really cold the year we ran it.

  4. I know you were more than happy to scratch that running itch!! Vegas sounds like so much fun…I have a couple of running friends that did the RnR full there a few years back…said it was a blast! Good luck and have fun! By the way, I agree…40’s is perfect running temps for me too!

  5. LV sounds like a fun adventure!!! I do some races that have events on back-to-back days….typically the shorter race is the fiorst day. I’m not much of a competitive racer, so I usually just run the shorter race at a somewhat easy pace (unlike what I did this weekend…big oops…race recaps are coming) to conserve a little something for the next day.

  6. When I was training for Ragnar I tried to mix up the time of day I ran and I think I did one or two “doubles,” but really the excitement of the event would have been enough. For LV, I think the trick will be to hold back a bit on the 5K.

  7. Very interesting to run a short run before the long run on your training plan, but I can definitely understand why that would be useful. Vegas will be great, I am sure !

  8. Vegas looks like it’ll be a blast! After doing a couple of remix challenges, I think the biggest thing I’ve learned is that neither race will end up being perfect, even if you try to focus on one over the other. So it’s best to enjoy the experience!

I was enjoying the fall weather and now we’ve got the 80’s for the first half of the week, go figure!

  9. That’s right, I forgot you were doing Vegas too! I’ll be there as well doing both the half and 5k. My plan is to go to the expo Saturday morning since I don’t get into town until Friday evening. That’s a good point about moving training runs later in the day, I’ll have to give that a try as well.

  10. Oh wow does this sound so awesome! Talk about more bang for your buck! I think I would switch up my runs to mimic the starting time. It’s good to change things up I think. Good luck to you!
