So week one of the new year is in the books… and how did it go?
Week’s Plan: 3 runs, 2 strength workouts, 1 cross training and 1 rest day
Week’s Actual: 2 runs, 3 strength workouts, and 2 rest days
This week was all about shaking off the holiday haze and getting back into a routine. Returning to work, along with the kids school and sports schedules, had everyone in my house scrambling a little bit. Schedules collided everywhere this week and I was once again reminded that if I do not get my run in early, it may not happen — hence only 2 runs this week.
The runs were solid – one very windy run with my husband J and one very hilly route that left me scrambling for a lacrosse ball to rollout some of the kinks. I was very happy to have gotten in so much strength work this week – one of my big goals for 2016 so a good start there.
Now that things have settled down a little, I’m confident I’ll get 3 runs in plus my the strength work. My tight hamstrings are also telling me some yoga would be greatly appreciated 🙂

This time of year it’s extra tough to get those early morning runs in! If I don’t run in the morning, they don’t get done.

My first week was kind of busy because I had family over until Friday evening, but I still managed to get my workouts in. Now I just need to get my good eating habits jumpstarted.

Sounds like you are off to a great start. Once you get a new routine worked out you will be golden.

It is tough to get it going after the holidays and sounds like you made a great attempt! I missed one workout too but I am blaming it on late football. I am with you, if it doesn’t happen in the morning, it gets tough to get it done! Have a great week!
It’s hard to get back to a routine after a long break, but sounds like you did great! I find it difficult to get up in the mornings too, but once I’m actually up and running, I’m good and feel great! I’m hoping to get in more strength training in this year too!

I had a hard time getting back to all my regular workouts last week too after all that vacation. I forgot how much I actually do! it’s tiring 🙂 Have a great week

So agree that if I don’t get in my run in the AM it is not happening after work! I have got to get back in the habit of some yoga stretches. I keep saying a class but honestly if I could just commit to several times a week at home with some basic runner stretches I’d be ok. Thank you for linking with us this week Michelle!

it’s definitely hard to get back into it, but sounds like you handled it like a champ! I’m sure as the month continues to move along things will fall into place.

Michelle, I feel like 2016 can finally start now that I’ve gotten this marathon complete. I’m coming home to a house full of decorations. I’ll be glad to settle down next week and have things get back to normal. Three strength days is great. I’ve got to make a commitment to do that. Thanks so much for linking!
Holly I can only imagine the last thing you feel like dealing with post-marathon are the decorations! Congrats again – looking forward to your recap!
This time of year is definitely hard to want to get up and out the door to workout. Heck, its even hard for me to want to wake up and get out the door to go to work, LOL I just look at the car and all the snow and ice on it and frankly would rather go back to bed:)
Great job getting that windy run in, those windy ones are always hard especially when it’s a cold wind!
