Perspective – “a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view”
Prior to learning that I was surgery bound, I have to admit that I was becoming pretty negative about my running. I was drowning in a see of “should be’s” and was increasingly frustrated with my body’s seeming inability to do what I wanted to do. Little did I know that my body was actually performing surprisingly well under increasing stress.
I’m now 3 weeks post-op and my doctor pointed out that I am doing great with my recovery due in no small part to the good condition I was in prior to surgery. Ah perspective…. a great reminder to always honor what your body can do.
Linking up today with Deb for Wednesday Word. Be sure to check what others are saying about “Perspective.”
I had surgery about 7 years ago, and my surgeon told me the same thing! By 4 weeks post-op, I was walking 4 miles, and by 8 weeks, I was back to running 5 miles. He told me that he never had a patient recover so quickly after a major surgery.
Yep. Perspective! Good luck on your return to running!

That’s so encouraging to hear – thanks Wendy!
While it’s so frustrating to not be able to do what we’re accustomed to, what we take for granted, yes, that fitness we build up is money in the bank, so to speak.

So true – it easy to take it all for granted. I sometimes forget what a gift it is to be able to do the things we do as runners.
Hang in there friend! I know it’s not easy (having gone through ACL surgery) but you will get back there. Doesn’t make it any less sucky though!!

Thanks so much Deborah, I really appreciate it 🙂
Glad you are recovering well. I have heard that before – people in good shape recovery from injury/surgery faster. An elite duathlete I follow in social media was hit by a car and very seriously injured. Her recovery was amazing and baffled the doctors that could only attribute to her peak physical condition.

It’s great that she was able to recover quickly from such a serious injury. Guess you can never underestimate what the human body can do, right?
It’s wonderful to hear you are doing well with your recovery. I know you’ll be back to doing the things you want very soon. Our bodies can do amazing things, including healing. I’m sidelined right now with injury but know it’s just a matter of time.
