Every month Marcia, from Marcia’s Healthy Slice, shares her “runfessions” – a chance to cleanse your sweaty soul. I love these posts. Marcia always invites her readers to join her and so this time round, I’m in.
Runfession #1 — While I’m feeling better about my training than I have in weeks, I confess that I am no where close to where I wanted to be at this point. But there’s still 8 weeks until Philly…
Runfession #2 — I’m seriously struggling with my motivation…there are definitely days where I want to chuck the training plan, let go of my race goals and just go back to running purely for the fun of it.
Runfession #3 — I’ve decided to take the Smuttynose Half off the table. While this was never a goal race, I will admit that I was secretly hoping to take advantage of the “flat, fast course” and kick some serious asphalt. Given #1, Coach Bennett and I agreed that if I can’t go and run it really easy that I shouldn’t do it….and I know myself and I just don’t think I can…so no Smuttynose this year.
Runfession #4 — I really miss my running buddy E. She’s been dealing with an injury and it’s been ages since we’ve run together. I’m sure that’s not helping my motivation on some days. But I do so appreciate that she’s one of my biggest cheerleaders!
Runfession #5 — I’m loving my hill workouts…I know right? But I have to admit that Thursday’s hill repeats have become my favorite workout of the week! And I’ve been crushing them!
There….I feel better now! Do you have any runfessions to share?
I feel you on #2 girlie1 I just did that, for my own reasons and for my race being cancelled, I think it all depends on what else we have going on too

It’s hard to lose a running buddy, even if temporarily. And I think everyone suffers from lack of motivation at some point. Just focus on the big picture and use it to motivate you to get out the door. Good job on those hills!

Yay thanks for runfessing!! I’m bummed for you that your BRF is on the DL. That would be hard. Good for you for knowing to take Smuttynose off your schedule. I was eyeing a 5k 6 days post NYCM and I KNOW full well I would not run easy. Better safe than sorry, right? Happy Friday!

That’s a big bummer losing your running partner. I know that would kick my motivation down a peg or two. Funny that you love hills – I loathe them! 🙂

those are some good ones! We all have days where motivating ourselves is harder. Missing a running buddy is hard. When I was injured I missed everyone so much. You have plenty of time before Philly you will be ready 🙂

Just 4 more weeks Mar! You’re going to kill it!
My running buddy is one of my biggest motivators and I missed running with her consistently this summer. I’m also experiencing a loss in motivation the past few weeks, but trying to work past it!

I will have to borrow that love of hills for my hilly 10 miler tomorrow! My runfession? I only ran once this week!

I’ve been battling #2 for a while now. It’s been a tough marathon training for sure and I just want to run for fun again! I also LOVE hill workouts too, crazy isn’t it?

Glad I’m not the only one on the hill love 😉
I’ve totally lost anything resembling motivation. I think it’s because I’ve lost any speed I once had and I’m tired of plodding along. I really wish my body would get with the program LOL.

Runfessions….ugh.
1. I lost my BRF earlier this year. She lost her mojo, no interest, and while I saw it coming over the last two years, it has thrown me for a loop, routine-wise.
2. Wheels came off at a HM this weekend. While it was never my goal race, and I trained this year to finish and not for speed, and I have another HM in 3 weeks, I will still unpleasantly surprised at my results.
3. As a result of #2, not feeling terribly motivated for HM in 3 weeks. Or for the “fun” one I signed up for in December.
4. All this wa-wa-wa poor pitiful me – esp when I couldnt’ run a good chunk of last year due to injury. GET OVER MYSELF!
Oh I so feel your pain on the lost of your BRF! Sorry your half marathon didn’t turn out the way you wanted. Hopefully you’ll get your mojo back before your next race!
Thanks _ I will, I am sure. I am just hoping it is a little cooler out there in 3 weeks!
