Are you ready?

Happy 2013!ย

I woke up yesterday morning feeling very revved up to get this new year off to a great start! I truly love that feeling of staring at a blank calendar and the anticipation of what lies ahead (OK in truth my calendar is already filled with my sons’ hockey games, lacrosse and baseball skills clinics and various other school activities…but you get my point!)

Over the past few days, I’ve poured over various race listings trying to get a handle on how I’m going to tackle the 13 in 2013 Challenge and balance my family’s ever-busy schedule. I’m still playing with several ideas, but I do know that I want to run another half this spring before running Boston’s Run to Remember Memorial Day weekend. So I’m targeting St. Patty’s weekend – it gives me 11 weeks, and with my current base and the Old-Fashioned 10 miler next month, I should be in good shape. The next question is which race? I’m consideringย  RnR USA, New Bedford Half or the Historic Quincy Half. While we had a fun family weekend in DC at RnR last year, but I’m leaning towards staying local this time around.

In any event it’s time to get moving! I’ve got my training plan mapped out, and kicked it off yesterday with an easy 5K. Today it’s time to get back strength training. Let the games begin!

Are you gearing up for a spring race?

  1. Sounds like your charged and ready to go – woohoo! That’s so exciting!

I have a very hilly 33k trail race for my first race of the new year in Moab – I can’t wait! After that, I’m not sure, but lots of things brewing!

    Happy New Year!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Lots of great options, it sounds like. I hear you on staying more local this year–kind of my plan, too. Whatever the case, you sound like you are ready to hit it–way to go!

  3. Happy New Year, Michelle……..if you run New Bedford, you just might see me there. Just look for the big guy at the back of the pack! :>)

    • Ha! I don’t know Bill I think you’ll still be further along in the pack than me ๐Ÿ˜‰ Definitely going to try to make a decision by the weekend.

  4. I ran Quincy last year and liked it! This year I will be running NYC Half in March, but I’m looking forward to seeing you at another race this year!

  5. Happy New Year! So many possibilities with the year ahead of us. I’ve got my eye on a couple of o things but have committed to nothing so far.

  6. I’m so excited for your challenge! I have a couple of race ideas up my sleeve, but my big one is a lottery! So it still remains a mystery. ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. I think my son’s games will be on Saturdays, so my Sunday races should be safe — my usual 10 milers in the D.C. area. I can’t imagine doing 13 races – I am just too injury prone! But you’ve got the training to get you there!

    • My biggest challenge is going to be working around my son’s lax schedule – all Sunday games. May require a few virtual races to get to the 13!

  8. I am so excited to see so many people doing 13 in 2013. My big spring race with be the RnR Nashville full marathon. A redemption race after my last full

  9. Michelle I’m either going to do New Bedford or Quincy! I’m partial to New Bedford but the hills are really playing with my mind right now!! Let me know what you decide!!

    • Honestly Nancy the hills are the big thing keeping me from registering from New Bedford – I’d love to finally get a flatter half after last fall! LOL! But I just saw on Quincy’s FB page that the date may be 3/10 – cuts a wk off the training plan ๐Ÿ™

  10. Happy New Year to you Michelle! There’s just something about starting to write down the year’s activities in a calendar/planner that make it all so exciting. Hope this is a great year for you and your family!

  11. I’m slowly catching up on blogs. HAppy NEw Year!!! I have a few races mapped out and the 13 in 2013 challenge is a really good motivator!!
