Week 2 Training (Had meant to post this yesterday, but my to do list seriously got in the way!):
Monday — Yoga (hmm yeah….see note above)
Tuesday — Tempo Run
Wednesday — Easy Run (3) & Strength Training
Thursday — Rest
Friday — Long Run (7 or 8)
Saturday — Pilates Reformer
Sunday — Easy Run (4)
Today’s run felt really good! The plan called for 3 miles at 11:00/mi plus warm-up and cool down. I had hoped to do five total but was a little pressed for time – 4 was going to be more realistic. So I ran Mile 1 at a comfortable pace and then just picked it up for the next three for a 10:37 ave. pace. I’m still trying to embrace my inner yogi – missed yesterday so hopefully I can squeeze a little in as the week goes on.
Overall, I think I’m going to enjoy having my long runs on Fridays. With the kids crazy spring sports schedules about to kick in, not to mention my hubs J’s lacrosse league, fitting in long runs on the weekends (especially once the runs hit double-digits) was just not looking practical.

When do you do your long runs?
Great week to look forward too! I usually do my long runs on Saturdays but really it’s whenever I feel like I can accomplish it. Somtimes that’s Monday or Friday night. Good luck with your runs!
So excited for you and you first half!!
I like to do my long runs on Saurdays. Friday nights, I’m usually ready to call it a night anyway, so getting up early on Sat is perfect!!
A year ago, a friend and I did our long runs on Wednesdays as we trained for a half marathon. We both loved it. It opened up our weekends so much.
Wednesdays are my long run days. It is my four year olds lunch bunch day and we have until 2:30 to get our run done. I like you have 3 kids in spring sports so my weekends are out.
good luck on your half….
Saturday is my day for long runs. Sometimes it gets hard with my son’s sports schedule, but I usually can get up early and fit something in.
Does your husband play or coach lacrosse? My son (in HS) loves lacrosse and the season is just starting. Most of his games this year are after school, so they interfere with my work schedule, not my runs!
It’s great when you can find a time like that that won’t stress the family’s schedule! I always do mine early on Sat. mornings and hope I won’t have to miss too much in terms of sports, etc. Usually works out!
I do mine on Saturday. Sometimes I wish I could do Friday because of hubbie’s basketball and other Saturday activities, but I have a toddler and a preschooler, so it just doesn’t work. Glad Fridays are looking good for you!
Nice job! Are you excited for your race? I try to fit in my long runs wherever they fit…sometimes an afternoon/evening that opens up or usually a time on the weekend.
hey Michelle~ Mine are scheduled for saturdays at the moment but that’s not going to last. I’ll have to figure something out when sports get into full swing. I hear ya’…it’s always a juggling act!
I usually run mine on Saturday mornings, but I don’t have kids, so I don’t really count.
If you move your long runs to Fridays, do you do them before work – really early when you hit double digits – or after work? I would be way too exhausted on Friday afternoon to do anything.
Good luck with the juggling of sports – it is all so important 🙂
