Five Bucket List Races and Fitness Events

For a runner or fitness enthusiast, there’s no shorter of races or events to capture your imagination! For this week’s Fit Five Friday, I’m  sharing five races and fitness experiences that are high on my bucket list.

Fit Five Friday: Five Bucket List Races and Fitness Events

Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run

The Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run in Washington, D.C., is a springtime classic that I’ve long wanted to experience. When my boys were playing lacrosse,  schedules never aligned to make this race possible, but with them both in college now I’m hoping to make this race a reality.

Broad Street Run

The Broad Street Run is another 10-mile race high on my list. The course is a straight shot down Broad Street, running through the heart of Philadelphia, and is one of the most popular road races in the country. It’s a race that celebrates the spirit of Philly, and I can’t wait to be a part of it!

BolderBoulder 10K

The BolderBoulder 10K in Colorado is more than just a race—it’s a celebration of community, fitness, and fun. With live music, great spectators, and a finish in the University of Colorado’s Folsom Field, this race offers an unforgettable experience. The altitude and the energy of Boulder make it a unique challenge I’m eager to take on.

NYC Half Marathon

Running through the streets of New York City is always special, and the NYC Half Marathon is no exception. The course takes you through Times Square, Central Park, and other iconic spots, all while soaking in the energy of the city. It’s a perfect way to experience NYC’s vibrant atmosphere while tackling a challenging but manageable distance.

Peloton Studios, NYC

While not a traditional race, a live class at Peloton Studios in NYC is a fitness experience I’m eager to check off my list. The energy of being in the studio with one of my favorite Peloton instructors coaching would be an awesome experience!

Five Favorite Races

This week the Fit Five Friday crew is inviting you to share your Five Favorite Medals/Races. While it was hard to narrow it down to just five races, it was fun to take a little walk down memory lane!

Fit Five Friday – Five Favorite Races

Boston’s Run to Remember — This was my first half marathon and I’ve run both the half and the 5 miler numerous times. I love the course and I love the vibe of this race! I’m also a fan that the race honors fallen first responders. I will miss running it this Memorial Day but can’t wait to run it next year.

Philly Half Marathon — This is was my first destination race and was definitely another good vibe race. I really enjoyed both the course and the great crowd support! I ran the 8K (also part of the Philadelphia Marathon Weekend) last year and it did not disappoint, but I would love to get back to run the half again.

Western MA 10M — If you’ve been around here a bit than you know how much I love the 10-mile distance! The Western 10M is a point-to-point course, starting on the UMass Amherst campus and ending in the town of Northampton, with most of the run taking place on the Norwottuck Rail Trail – a beautiful trail for runners, walkers, and cyclists, especially in the Fall when the race takes place. This race had great volunteers and a fun post-race party and it’s another one I’m hoping to run again.

Ocean Road 10K — This is another repeat race for me and with good reason! The 10K course winds along Rhode Island’s coastline, starting at the Point Judith Lighthouse and ending at Narragansett Beach. It’s a lot of fun, well organized, and how can you beat running near the ocean?!

Chicago Marathon — How could my first (and only) marathon not be on my list?! This is such a great race – I loved everything about my experience. Running through all of the different Chicago neighborhoods was amazing and the spectators came out in force! A fabulous experience, especially for a first time marathon!

What is one of your favorite races?

November Coffee Catch-Up

And just like that October is out the door and November is here. As we usher in a new month, it’s the perfect time for a little coffee catch-up, so I’m linking up with Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date. And, of course, it’s Friday so that means another Fit Five Friday link-up! So grab a mug of your fave hot beverage and let’s chat.

November Coffee Catch-Up

Over coffee, I would have to start by mentioning this crazy weather we’re having! The days have been unseasonably warm (upper 60s to mid-70s) – I’m certain we’ll pay for this later, but for now, I’m not mad about the fact that I can still run in shorts and a T-shirt!

Over coffee, I would tell you how much I’m looking forward to our wine country vacation! We’re heading to Sonoma next week and I cannot wait to eat great food, sample wines, and r-e-l-a-x!

Over coffee, I would tell you that I have two races this month. I’m heading out to Amherst this weekend for the inaugural Western MA 10 miler and then the weekend before Thanksgiving my husband and I are Philly-bound to run the 8K as part of the Philadelphia Marathon weekend.

Over coffee, I would also tell you how much I’m looking forward to having my college boy home for Thanksgiving break! I so enjoy this time of year and the holidays and after all of October’s busyness, I’m very intent on slowing down and savoring these last couple of months of the year.

Lastly, over coffee, I would tell you that I’ve jumped into a couple of challenges just to keep things interesting. Inspired by Jen, I’ve climbed back on the planking bandwagon with a Planksgiving Challenge. I know there are various versions out there, but I’ll be following the one offered by Women’s Running. I’ll also be diving into ZOOMA’s Winter Warrior Challenge. I runfess that I couldn’t resist the cute swag!

What would you tell me over coffee? What are you looking forward to this month?

Summer running has arrived

June has arrived and with it, soaring summer temps. We’re in the middle of the first legit heatwave of the year and acclimation is the name of the game! Here’s how the workout week went down.

Pretty path from Saturday’s Run

Weekly Run Down — Week 22

Monday — 2.5-mile run & stretching. The last day of my staycation was a lazy one, but this shakeout run and a good stretch helped to keep my ITB happy.

Tuesday — 20 min Ride, 30 min Full Body strength, 10 min Core, & stretching. After 10 days off, re-entry into the workday was a little rough, but this combo was the perfect antidote.

Wednesday — A 5K for Global Running Day! It was nice to celebrate virtually with some run buddies (Thanks to Kim for this great collage!)

Thursday —  Stretching, otherwise a rest day.

Friday — 20 min ride, 15 Upper Body strength, 10 min Core for Runners, and upper body stretch. I loved this Peloton stack, especially the Core for Runners workout – the standing core and balance work was a nice change of pace.

Saturday — 4.5-mile run. It was so fun to meet up with my brother for a run – we haven’t run together since last Spring! We’re hoping to get a couple more runs in together before our 10K race next month. The heat definitely made this a humbling run – time to get acclimated!

Sunday —  3-mile run, 10 min Core, and a stretch. Despite being up and out early, it was pushing 80 degrees by the time I finished my run. After struggling with a little dehydration during Saturday’s run, I prepped better this morning and this run felt much better.

A Couple of Fall Races

I’m excited to add a couple of fall races to my calendar!
Back on My Feet is an amazing organization that combats homelessness through the power of running, community support, and essential employment and housing resources. They currently operate in 14 major cities across the country, including Boston. As a BibRave Pro, I am taking part in the virtual Back on My Feet Running Festival in September. The Festival features a range of distances – I’ll be running the 15K. If you’d like to join me, use the discount code “BibRave5!” to save $5 off registration.

Run to Remember is one of my favorite half marathons (in fact, it was my first!). Ever since the race organizers announced earlier this year that they were hoping to hold an in-person race this Fall in addition to the virtual race held during Memorial Day Weekend, (the traditional race weekend) I’ve been keeping my fingers crossed. This morning the email came through announcing an in-person race in November! Well, it took me about half a second to break out my credit card to register!

How was your week? Has it heated up where you are? Any races on the calendar?

2019 Year in Bling

For today’s Tuesday Topics, Kim and Zenaida are inviting everyone to share their bling for 2019. How fun!

While there were not a lot of races on my calendar this year – the ones I did run offered some great bling with great memories behind each one.

Boston’s Run to Remember Half Marathon

This race is one of my favorites – I love that it honors fallen first responders.

B.A.A 10K

This is another race I have run on multiple occasions – it’s a great run through Boston

Narragansett 10K

Such a fun race, despite the sweltering summer heat! Thankfully there was post-race beer!

No bling but a cute shirt!

Surftown Half Marathon

Half marathon #15 was a training run for the Chicago Marathon

International Chicago 5K & Chicago Marathon

Just an awesome weekend…and my first marathon!

Chocolate Marshmallow 5K

How can you not want to run a race with this name!

And that’s my year in bling! I can’t wait to add to the collection in 2020!
