Five Fave Fitness Power Songs

Happy Friday!

Thanks for joining Darlene, Jenn, Renee, Zenaida, and me for another edition of Fit Five Friday. This week we’re talking Favorite Fitness Power Songs. Of course, you should always feel free to write about any fitness/wellness-related topic.

I definitely like to/need to have music on my runs and I keep a pretty wide variety of songs on my playlists – though you’ll never find a country song! My “favorites” depends a lot on my mood, but here are five songs that are currently in rotation often.

Five Fave Fitness Power Songs

“About Damn Time” by Lizzo — Honestly it was hard to just pick one Lizzo song. She just makes me smile.

“Glow Up” by Meek Mill

“Run Run Run” by Jill Scott — I mean with a title like that how can you not include it?!

“Back in Black” by AC/DC — My youngest son got me to add this one to my library and I find myself playing quite a bit.

“Don’t Stop the Music” by Rihanna

“Wake Me Up” by Avicii

Yes, I know that’s actually six songs…I had a hard time taking one off the list. 🙂

I’ve got a race in two weeks so as I put my next playlist together, tell me some of your favorite power songs.

Friday Five: Fave Running Tunes

It’s finally Friday!! Why do short work weeks always feel so much longer?!

As I mentioned last week, I needed a good power tune to get me through my intervals and this week’s 400-meter repeats were no different. While I find of late I’m using music less for some of my shorter runs, when it comes to speedwork, hill repeats or late in a long run, I like to have my music! So when I heard that Courtney, Mar and Cynthia were inviting everyone to share their “Favorite Fitness Tunes,”  I  couldn’t resist chiming in with my 5 current favorites. Note I say current because my tastes and playlists change often!

(Links to YouTube videos below in case you’re interested)

Love Runs Out by OneRepublic — The very first time I heard this one on the radio I knew I had to add it to my playlist. I love the driving beat!

Applause by Lady Gaga —  While I’m not a huge Gaga fan, this song never fails to get me moving!

Now that We Found Love by Heavy D & the Boyz — Old school!

Dream On by Aerosmith — Told you my taste is eclectic!  While a slower beat for sure, there is something about this song that always gets me going – maybe it’s the Boston connection 😉

25 Miles by Edwin Starr — OK so Old School there isn’t even a video, just an audio link! Despite its age, it’s a relatively new addition to my playlist and a favorite to hear late in a long run.

Be sure to check out everyone else’s list – maybe you’ll find a new tune for your playlist!

Tunes Wanted! Playlist Link-up

Playlist_Linkup1

The treadmill is quickly becoming my new BFF for the majority of my runs lately, which means I am heavily dependent on my tunes for added motivation (and distraction). But, with the playlist in heavy rotation, I am in need of some new songs to keep things interesting, so today I’m linking up with Mar on the Give Me a Beat playlist linkup!

Here are a few of my current faves (no judgement!):

“Applause” by Lady Gaga — This one made it to my playlist after my oldest son suggested I listen to it. Never fails to get my feet moving!

“Runaway Baby” by Bruno Mars — Ever since I saw Bruno perform this at the Grammy’s I’ve been hooked.

“It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons — The slower pace makes it a great tune for early in the run.

“Try” by P!nk — This one comes up in the later miles of a long run – helps me to refocus when my energy level is waning.

“Counting Stars” by One Republic — Another one that never fails to get me going.

“Run this Town” by Jay-Z (feat. Rihanna & Kayne West) — There is always at least one Jay-Z song on every one of my playlists!

As you can see, my music tastes run the gamut!

So help me out – what’s the one tune that is a must have on your playlist? And, if you’re looking for inspiration, head on over to Mar on the Run and checkout the rest of the link up!

Thursday Thoughts: Idle legs, weather watch and playlists

  1. I’ve been so itchy to run this week! I have a lot spinning around in my head and running has really become a great way for me to process things. But with the race Sunday there haven’t been many miles this week…which has left me just a tad…shall we say edgy?
  2. 7day_wide_629x354  Adding to the edginess is the ongoing weather watch. Yes I know…I know I can’t control it so why worry about it right? Earlier this week the forecast was showing picture-perfect conditions, but now it seems some front has stalled and we could be looking at a very wet race day. This is why you train in all kinds of weather…but I’m still doing my “keep away” rain dance just the same!
  3. My playlist for Sunday is coming along but I’m still short a few songs. I need suggestions please! My taste runs the gammut – really I’ve got everything from Jay Z and Kanye West to U2, Aerosmith and the Dropkick Murphys so fire away with any of your favorites. The only thing I can’t take is country!

Talk to me – what’s your playlist must have?
