Global Running Day 2016

It’s Global Running Day!

Like we runners really need an excuse to celebrate all things running, right?! Still I love seeing all the positive promotion of running around social media and the interwebs.

Once again, fellow SweatPink Ambassador Kristen from Jonesin’ for a Run has invited us to join in and participate in her annual running survey – so here goes…

Why do you run?

Honestly I don’t think answer changes much for me from year to year….I run for my sanity, my health, for the challenge. I am a better version of myself when I run for sure.

How do you plan to celebrate National Running Day?

Wednesdays are usually a strength day for me with Trainer Stacy, but I’m sure I’ll slip a mile or two in.

How many miles have you run so far this year? Do you have a mileage goal for the year?

I set no mileage goals for this year. I didn’t want to get fixated on any particular number – just want to run healthy and happy. As such, I’ve been lousy at tracking my miles – sometimes I remember to record on Daily Mile, but often I forget.

What big events do you have on the race calendar so far this year?

I’m looking forward to a race-filled fall, including three Rock ‘n’ Roll races in Philly, Brooklyn and Vegas! Speaking of Rock ‘n’ Roll, be sure to check out their site today for some serious discounts. You can also use code ROCKATTITUDE to save $15 off registration.

Before I leave for a run I must have:

I don’t head out for a run without my phone, SPIbelt, earbuds, hat/visor, and now that the temps are heating up, my Nathan handheld.

Do you track your runs? If so what do you use?

If you caught my May Runfessions, then you know my Forerunner 10 is in my doghouse right now – also why it’s missing from my must have list. I’ve been trying the Map My Run app  on my last couple of runs.

Who is your favorite running partner?

Most of my runs are solo, but I have enjoyed having my husband join me on some of my Saturday runs.

What races have you run so far this year?

Just ran my first race of the year, Boston’s Run to Remember, last Sunday. You can read my recap here.

If you have to give someone one piece of advice about running, what would it be?

Run your race! While reading running blogs is great for inspiration and camaraderie, don’t fall victim to the comparison game. Running is a very individual experience – enjoy your journey.

National Running Day 2015

Happy National Running Day!

Today is a day to celebrate all things running…not that runners really need an excuse to celebrate 🙂  But who knows, maybe someone will be inspired to lace up for the first time! And, from the look at my inbox, it looks like there will be a lot of great deals for both gear and races available today – never a bad thing, right?

2015 national running day

Fellow SweatPink Ambassador Kristen from Jonesin’ for a Run invited a bunch of us to answer the questions of her running interview for “a look into my miles” – so here goes…

national running day interview

1. Why do you run? There are so many reasons why I run…my sanity, my health, for the challenge…because it helps me to be a better version of myself.

2. How do you plan to celebrate National Running Day? After being sidelined these last few weeks, being able to run today makes me smile.

3. How many miles have you run so far this year?  I honestly haven’t checked – thanks to over 100 inches of snow this winter (forcing me to deal with treadmill runs) and my left knee woes, there have not been a lot of miles. But I’ve got 7 months of 2015 left and I plan to make the most of them!

4. What big events do you have on the race calendar so far this year? My race calendar has been a bit of a moving target, but I am really looking forward to running RnR Philly and RnR Vegas. I’m looking for an early fall race and would like to get a couple of shorter distances in.

5. Before I leave for a run I must have:  Garmin, iPhone, earbuds, SPIbelt,  usually a hat /visor, and, if it’s really bright, sunglasses.

6. Do you have one favorite app to track your runs?  I haven’t tried any of the running apps yet.

7. Who is your favorite running partner? Of late, my husband has been running with me on the weekends, otherwise I run solo.

8. What races have you ran so far this year? Just one – the BAA 5K with my family…always fun!

9. If you had to give someone one piece of advice about running what would it be? Run for yourself and don’t get caught up in the comparison game.

10.  Describe your relationship with running in one word: Complex

Happy National Running Day!

Happy National Running Day ~ a coast-to-coast celebration of running!

I kicked off the day with a 4-mile run before getting my youngest off to school. With the weather finally warming up and showing real signs that summer’s coming, I decided this morning would be a good time to start to make the shift back to early morning runs (that was before I realized it was going to pour this morning!) Nonetheless it was a good way to start a morning! I love that feeling of having accomplished something for myself before the day gets going and other demands take over.

So how will you be celebrating National Running Day?

A group run?
Solo time on the trails?
A little race shopping?
Purchasing some new summer running gear? 🙂

Maybe I’ll sneak another quick run in with my son this afternoon – he wants to start training for his next 5k! And you know I love hearing that!

What have you got planned for today?

Fun ZOOMA Lunch

Jessica, me, Nancy, Ann Curry Peisig, Brae Blackley

Part of my National Running Day celebration was to down head to Falmouth to the beautiful Sea Crest Beach Hotel for a lunch hosted by ZOOMA race founder Brae Blackley. Brae had invited some of the local media, coaches and local runners plus the Ambassadors to get together for an informal preview of the ZOOMA Cape Cod Half Marathon & 10k.

It was great meeting fellow ambassadors Nancy & Jessica – it’s going to be fun working with them! And after meeting Brae and learning about how ZOOMA got started and her vision for creating a really special experience for runners, I can say I’m even more excited for this race!

A little ZOOMA Swag!

The Sea Crest is newly renovated and is going to make a great host hotel for the race! The hotel is waiving the standard 2-night minimum and is offering a great rate to ZOOMA runners of $199 per night. Definitely a great deal for Cape Cod in September!

And, don’t forget, you can use the discount code in my side bar and receive $10 off the half marathon or $5 off the 10k. I have no doubt this race is going to sellout so don’t wait to register!

All in all it was a fun way to spend an afternoon! And yes I did do a little race shopping when I got home – I’m still trying to flesh out anniversary plans with J so I didn’t officially register for anything, but I’ve got my eye on a couple that should help make for a busy Fall!

National Running Day!

Today is National Running Day! A day for runners to declare their passion for running (not that we really need one day for that!) and maybe to inspire someone else to join us!

So how will you be celebrating?

With a group run?
Registering for a race?
Purchasing some new running gear?

Me? I just squeezed in a nice easy 4 miler before putting the boys on the school bus. Later today I’ll be attending the ZOOMA Cape Cod preview luncheon hosted by race founder Brae Blackley. I’m looking forward to meeting Brae and the other race ambassadors, and hearing all about the plans for ZOOMA Cape Cod!

And then yes, there’s always the possibility of a little race shopping before the day is done 🙂

It’s National Running Day!

Today is National Running Day!  The goal of this movement is to nationally promote running as a healthy, easy and accessible form of exercise for people of all ages. I especially like the fact that one of the stated missions on the National Running Day website is to “get kids interested in running as part of an everyday healthy lifestyle.” Did you know that in the U.S. only 1 in 4 kids gets at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day? And with phys. ed. classes disappearing from many schools across the country this stat could get a lot worse! I know from watching my own kids, running is such a natural and joyful activity…why wouldn’t you want to promote that, right?

So I’ll be encouraging everyone I know to get out and move today – whether it’s a run, walk or something in between 🙂

Happy Running!
