Runfessions for Black Friday

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

It’s the last Friday of the month so Marcia has opened the runfessional. It’s also time for another Fit Five Friday hosted by DarleneReneeJennZenaida, and yours truly, so let’s get started.

Runfessions for Black Friday

I runfess that the Black Friday hype just feels silly to me at this point – retailers have been screaming about Black Friday sales since the start of the month – it makes you wonder if these are really the best deals any more.

I runfess that I am feeling the pressure to get going on my holiday shopping especially with one week less than usual between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’m feeling pressure largely because I’m struggling for gift ideas – my boys get harder and harder to shop for as they get older…and my husband is impossible to buy for!

I also runfess that I’d be fine punting on the gifts in favor of putting money towards a larger vacation.

Have you started your holiday shopping?

Black Friday Runfessions

Does anyone else feel like Thanksgiving kind of snuck up on them? In general, I feel like the fall has gone by in a blink, but these last few weeks have been a blur.

Now it’s the last Friday of the month which means Marcia has opened the runfessional. It’s also time for another Fit Five Friday hosted by DarleneReneeJennZenaida, and yours truly, so let’s get started.

Black Friday Runfessions

I’m sure that I have runfess this before, but I am not a fan of Black Friday mania. While I love a good deal, I want no part of the frenzied shopping in crowded stores – especially these days. Thanks but no thanks – I’ll stick to shopping from my couch.

And, speaking of shopping, I runfess that I’m am struggling with gift ideas for my teenage sons. Honestly, they have what they want, except for the ridiculously elusive Xbox Series X which is sold out everywhere and has been for months.

While I am usually an early morning runner, I runfess that I have been fully embracing the midday run lately thanks in large part to the weather. We’ve had a string of unseasonably warm afternoons that have been too tempting to pass up (<30 in the mornings vs. upper 50s and 60s in the afternoon). Mother Nature is starting to make it clear that this weather trend is coming to an end, but it was fun while it lasted.

What are you run-fessing? Do you shop Black Friday sales?

Runfessions – Thanksgiving Edition

November blew by in a flash and here we are once again on the last Friday of the month, which means it’s time to share some runfessions so we can roll into the holiday season with a clear conscious. So let’s get to it, shall we?

I runfess that I’m not a fan of Black Friday. I love a good deal as much of the next girl, but dealing with the crazed crowds, or even worse camping out and waiting for stores to open? Yeah no…I’m all set with that.

I runfess that back when I registered for the Harborside Half, which was supposed to be my goal race of the fall, that for the first time I added the option of registration insurance. I hoped I wouldn’t need it, but clearly, there was a part of me that knew my nagging injuries could be an issue. Fast forward to last week and I was one happy camper to receive confirmation that my registration fee had been refunded!

I runfess that my #RunNovemberChallenge streak hit a speed bump. When I woke Wednesday morning I was greeted with a driving rain, so I pushed my required 1 mile to later rationalizing that there would be time after we arrived at our Thanksgiving destination to squeeze it in later. Well, our normally 6-hour drive morphed into 8 and by the time we dragged our road-weary selves into our hotel, there was barely enough time to become presentable before we had to meet family members at a restaurant. You can see where this is going…the mile never happened and the streak is no more.

I runfess that while I have been enjoying this slow and easy approach to my “runner rebuild” there is a part of me that’s feeling like it’s time to kick into gear soon. In the absence of a training plan or long distance target, I can see how easy it would be to get into a short run rut. Time to mix things up!

That being said, I runfess that I almost skipped this month’s runfessions because I wasn’t sure I’d come up with much. November’s been a good month and brought with it the joy of running again. I’m grateful to be running pain-free and to be back in the mental space where I look forward to getting out for a run vs. dreading it.

I’m linking up with Marcia for Runfessions

 and

Rachel and Lacey & Meranda for the Friday Five link-up!

Any runfessions to share? Do you do Black Friday?

Friday Five

  • Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I spent a wonderful day with family – food, football and a lot of laughing made for a really good time.
  • Went for a short run this morning – I wanted to give my left leg a little break, so aside from some yoga and my usual pilates class I haven’t done more than walk since Sunday. It’s crazy warm here, especially for late November so it was nice to be out, even if the leg was just so-so.
  • Despite not having started my shopping yet and just 4 weeks until Christmas, I couldn’t bring myself to face the madness of Black Friday. I love a good deal as much as the next girl, but the combination of waiting on line for hours, large crowds and the unstable disposition of some of the clientele – yeah…no thanks!
  • Cyber Monday is more my speed. Plus, I’m also hoping by then my boys will have their wish lists put together. Actually, in the case of my youngest, I’m just trying to get him to be a little more definitive than “everything in the Lego store.” The thought of more Lego in my house makes my head spin.
  •  With only one more race left my calendar for this year, I’m just starting to play around with a race schedule for 2012. Is it my imagination or is the 10k becoming a dying breed…or are they just scarce in New England? I wanted to add a few for next year because I think the 10k a good challenging mix of speed and distance. Hopefully I can find a couple.
Did you take on the crowds of Black Friday?
Are 10ks easy to find in your area?
Have you got your race calendar for 2012 set yet?
